Role overview — As a Utilities & Facilities Technician, you will ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of a facility's physical structure and its various systems, including plumbing, water systems, HVAC, and general building maintenance. This role involves performing routine and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosing system malfunctions, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Operating, maintaining and repairing the following systems and components: completion of planned maintenance on a scheduled weekly basis; completion of scheduled work-orders on a scheduled weekly basis; all GSAL factory buildings civil & fabric work.
- Repairing / replacement of all utility piping & sanitary systems to ensure proper condition, including potable water, chilled water, steam & condensate, and compressed air systems.
- Repairing & replacement of all piping and ductwork insulation related to HVAC ducting, potable water, chilled water, steam & condensate, and compressed air systems.
- Operation and maintenance of fire fighting systems & chillers.
- Report near misses and escalate as appropriate.
- Maintain safety in all utility areas and systems (safety compliance).
- Maintain EHS compliance in utility systems.
- Maintain acceptable housekeeping at all times.
- Report and escalate all quality issues appropriately.
- Maintain utilities and systems in GMP compliance and complete documentation on schedule in a GMP compliant manner.
- Request spare parts in the CMMS before physical issuance from the engineering store; inform supervisor of material requirements or shortages.
- Monitor system functions daily and record data.
Accountability
- Responsible for the operation & maintenance of the fire fighting system in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and design specifications.
- Carry out monthly maintenance of all factory doors and maintenance of fire shutters for production buildings, warehouses, and Cephs buildings.
- Perform monthly routine maintenance of buildings, installation repair of gypsum board partitions and ceiling tiles.
- Maintain HVAC ducting & piping insulation for potable water, chilled water, steam & condensate, compressed air systems and support services to HVAC systems.
- Use CMMS to record routine maintenance, review breakdown history, and update PPM routines as preventive measures.
- Carry out non-routine and breakdown maintenance as per other department requests.
- Ensure tools and test equipment are kept safe and calibrated prior to use.
- Conduct GEMBA to keep plant and areas clean and orderly at all times.
- Work closely with other team members; comply with site SOPs.
- Attend training courses to improve skills.
- Adhere to GSK Environmental, Health and Safety instructions per site EHS policy to prevent accidents and deliver EHS targets.
- Report abnormal incidents, conditions or near misses that may damage personnel, property, or company reputation.
- Comply with related Group Quality Policies and Governance Policies; participate in Operational Excellence initiatives (e.g., OE, JDI, Lean Sigma).
- Be familiar with Engineering Global Standards (GES) and ensure compliance; develop risk mitigation plans where applicable and monitor implementation.
- Carry out problem-solving sessions when required and ensure timely reporting and closure (Zap Reporting & Closure).
Basic Qualifications
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- Diploma / associate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering applications, including steam boiler operation, HVAC systems, fluid mechanics (pumps and compressors), and maintenance management.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of practical experience in electrical inspections and maintenance in an industrial environment (pharmaceutical experience preferred).
- Good command of spoken and written English.
