Job summary

ACWA Power in Saudi Arabia seeks a senior process/maintenance engineer to verify data design specs, develop SOWs, and support O&M for major co-generation plants and MED/SWRO desalination units. You will assist management with technical queries, analyze system upsets, and lead life assessments to extend equipment lifespan.

The role requires 16+ years in O&M of large power/desalination assets, with strong background in process development, corrosion control, and environmental considerations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering with extensive O&M of major Co-generation Plants and MED + SWRO Desalination units.
  • Experience in evaluating plant designs, performing root cause analyses, and similarity technical reviews.
  • Familiarity with international standards, materials, corrosion and environmental impact assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out verification of data design specifications and plant equipment standards.
  • Develop scope of work and functional requirements for equipment modifications.
  • Assist management responding to technical queries from Contractors.
  • Analyze critical system upsets and recommend preventive actions.
  • Perform Residual Life Assessment studies for major equipment.
  • Provide engineering support and consultancy across process development and optimization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job description

Roles and Responsibilities
  • 1 To carryout diligent verification of basic data design specifications systems standards of major Plant equipments installed by the EPC Contractors in NOMAC operated Power amp Desalination Projects or to be installed in new Projects
  • 2 To participate in developing the Scope of Work defining the functional requirements equipment specifications in case any system equipment requires modification to be performed by outsourced agency
  • 3 To assist Plant Management in responding to the queries and or clarifications concerning technical specifications asked by the Contractors
  • 4 To assist Plant O amp M crews in analyzing critical system upsets operating problems and recommend measures to avoid recurrences
  • 5 To perform Residual Life Assessment RLA studies for the major Plant equipments and recommend corrective actions for extending the lifespan and or for better and economic utilization of the equipment wherever necessary
  • 6 To execute and offer engineering support and technical consultancy to NOMAC Plants in following major areas Areas of Applied Studies Process development and optimization of conventional thermal and membrane desalination processes Optimization of pretreatment processes Root cause identification of corrosion scaling and other process related problems Assessment of environmental impacts of Power Desalination Plants discharges on the marine habitat and vice versa Life prediction of major equipment and state-of-art assessment of Project designs and their current status Areas of Evaluation Studies Performance evaluation of different materials and equipment for the suitability and application in Desalination Power industry The materials may include propriety chemicals e g antiscalants antifoam coagulants O2-scavengers disinfectants corrosion inhibitors cleaning agents and other treatment chemicals metallic alloys non-metallic construction materials coatings insulators etc whereas the equipment may include pressure exchangers condenser tubes ERDs RO UF membranes MCF elements MHDs Sponge Balls Cleaning System Sponge Balls etc Areas of Troubleshooting Studies Failure case studies Event Investigations Suggesting remedial actions for recurring and unusual problems Monitoring feed and product water qualities
  • 7 Perform other duties as assigned

Educational Desired Bachelor degree of Engineering Preferred M S Chemical Science or Chemical Mechanical Engineering with 20 years experience in relevant field OR Ph D Chemical Science or Chemical Mechanical Engineering with 15 years relevant experience

Minimum Experience Type and duration Minimum 16 years with Bachelor degree in O amp M of major Co-generation Plants combined cycle Power generation and MED SWRO Desalination units in Senior Position OR 10 years with Ph D in O amp M of major Co-generation Plants combined cycle Power generation and MED SWRO Desalination units in Senior Position both having sound chemical biological and metallurgical backgrounds

Preferable M S 20 years Exp with minimum 5 Papers Project reports published and 5 Conferences attended all in the field of O amp M of major Co-generation Plants combined cycle Power generation and MED SWRO Desalination units OR Ph D 15 years Exp with minimum 5 Papers Project reports published and 5 Conferences attended all in the field of O amp M of major Co-generation Plants combined cycle Power generation and MED SWRO Desalination units

Membership of national regional and international professional Societies Associations Boards Committees Agencies Forums etc will be counted extra merit

Required Skills Awareness of Quality Occupational Health amp Safety and Environment Management system principles The TM should have extensive practical exposure to process mainly Power generation and Desalination MED and SWRO Plants capable of reviewing Plant designs technical evaluation of projects versed with engineering calculations material and energy balance thermal design and rating of Heat Exchangers hydraulic calculations process and control and system protection analyses International codes practices regulations and standards material performance and corrosion Risk-Based Inspection and inspection techniques determination of Plant aging Residual Life Assessment on fixed equipment Boilers Turbines Evaporators Pumps Energy Recovery Devices Water Transmission pipelines pressure vessels columns heat exchangers pressure piping etc schematic diagrams specification assessment working knowledge to use process related latest software analytical ability to handle Trouble-shooting process equipment failures carryout investigations Root Cause Analysis suggest plant modifications process improvement analyze the impact of chemical imbalances know potential water environmental pollutants their maximum permissible limits and hazards carryout feasibility studies experience of Report writing and technical editing Familiarization with value engineering predictive preventive corrective maintenance Analysis of Process Data Sheets etc will be additional advantage

Desired certification Job specific skill Training Basic computer skills such as MS Word MS Excel MS Power Point and MS project etc are must Similarly the candidate should have proficient English communication reporting and presentation skills

Work Condition The TM will be travel frequently to various Plants driving the Car by himself He has to enter the segments of MSF distillers Boiler for physical inspection He may be assigned to work jointly with Designers Contractors in the field sites during design erection commissioning phases of the Plants
