Overview

Parsons is looking for a talented Systems Testing and Commissioning Engineer for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to join our team. You will be responsible for ensuring the successful testing, integration, and commissioning of ITS solutions, such as traffic management systems, advanced traveler information systems, tolling systems, and connected vehicle technologies. This role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to validate system functionality, performance, and compliance with project requirements, ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and efficient transportation solutions.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop and execute detailed test plans, procedures, and schedules for ITS components, including hardware, software, and communication systems.

• Conduct functional, performance, and integration tests for ITS solutions such as traffic signal controllers, variable message signs (VMS), CCTV systems, automatic vehicle detection systems, and central traffic management platforms.

• Validate system interoperability with existing infrastructure and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., NTCIP, SAE, IEEE).

• Verify the integration of ITS subsystems, such as vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication, adaptive traffic control systems, and real-time data analytics platforms.

• Perform end-to-end system validation to ensure seamless operation and data flow between field devices, communication networks, and central control systems.

• Prepare and maintain comprehensive test reports, commissioning records, and as-built documentation for ITS systems.

• Document and track issues, non-conformities, and resolutions during the testing and commissioning process.

• Work closely with project managers, ITS engineers, contractors, and clients to coordinate testing and commissioning activities.

• Provide regular updates to stakeholders on progress, challenges, and resolutions.

• Ensure all testing and commissioning activities comply with relevant safety regulations, codes, and ITS standards (e.g., MUTCD, FHWA guidelines).

• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures during testing and commissioning phases.

• Diagnose and resolve technical issues encountered during the testing and commissioning of ITS systems.

• Recommend and implement corrective actions to address system deficiencies or performance gaps.

• Provide training and support to end-users, operators, and maintenance teams on ITS system functionality and operation.

• Assist in the handover process, ensuring all documentation, training materials, and deliverables are complete.

What Required Skills You'll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.

• 10+ years of experience in testing, commissioning, or integration of ITS systems or related technologies, with demonstrated expertise in commissioning and systems verification.

• Strong understanding of ITS technologies, including traffic management systems, communication protocols (e.g., NTCIP, TCP/IP), and field devices.

• Proficiency in testing tools, diagnostic equipment, and software used in ITS applications.

• Familiarity with ITS standards and guidelines, such as NTCIP, SAE J2735, and IEEE 1512.

• Expertise in systems verification, including validation of system performance, reliability, and integration.

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with diverse teams.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring

• Communication skills in Arabic is preferred.

• Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., ITS Professional Certification, ISTQB, or PMP) are a plus.
