Surgical Upper Gastroenterology Consultant

• King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center - Madinah

• Madinah, Saudi Arabia

Summary

Responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases of the upper digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine (duodenum). Responsible for performing procedures such as upper endoscopy (EGD) and upper GI series to visualize the upper GI tract and identify conditions like acid reflux, ulcers, and cancers.

Education / Qualification Required:

  • Basic medical degree from a recognized institution
  • Post-qualification certification
  • Qualification from: North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand
  • USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
  • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
  • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
  • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
  • Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above

Experience Post-Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years after board or equivalent certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, or New Zealand

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based patient care in all aspects of Upper Gastroenterology within the scope of granted clinical privileges.
  • Provide consultation upon request and respond in a timely manner as per organizational policy.
  • Ensure timely completion, accuracy, and completeness of medical records.
  • Provide on-call service with availability and response within prescribed timeframes.
  • Perform other clinical responsibilities related to Gastroenterology as assigned.

Academic Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor medical interns, residents, and fellows in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in departmental teaching activities, including case discussions, journal clubs, and clinical conferences.
  • Represent the department at national and international medical conferences and symposia.
  • Maintain licensure and CME requirements to stay current with advances in gastroenterology.

Research Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical, basic, and translational research projects to advance knowledge and improve postgraduate education.
  • Contribute to the national and international recognition of KFSH&RC.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Undertake administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Section or Chairman.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational committees and activities.
  • Assist in developing and implementing resource utilization strategies.
  • Adhere to organizational bylaws, rules, and policies.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
