Summary
Within the mission, vision and values of Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, in close collaboration with medical and other healthcare team members demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge and applies this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and design of nursing care and interventions in the Pediatric ICU Clinic. Function under a collaborative management model where Medicine and Nursing jointly participate in decisions.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Experience Post-Qualifications:
- Minimum Two (2) years of clinical experience post qualification
- Minimum One (1) year in Pediatric ICU Clinic
License:
Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate advanced critical care nursing knowledge and clinical competence in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
- Act as an advisor and resource person within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for high-acuity pediatric patients.
- Work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary critical care team within the remit of the Registered Nurse (RN) license to deliver complex, high-intensity nursing care, including participation in rapid response and emergency interventions.
- Act as an advisor and resource person for current evidence-based pediatric critical care nursing practices.
- Demonstrate excellent crisis communication and collaboration skills with patients, families, and all members of the PICU healthcare team.
- Function as a patient advocate, upholding the highest standards of safety, dignity, and quality of care for critically ill children.
- Maintain meticulous documentation and record keeping in accordance with ICU standards, ensuring traceability and legal compliance.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all medical records, reports, and results related to the Pediatric ICU.
- Act as an expert educational resource for clinical staff and actively participate in teaching, mentoring, and supporting the PICU team, including new nurses and students.
- Participate in pediatric critical care research activities and promote the implementation of evidence-based best practices in the PICU.
- Assess patient and family educational needs regarding complex conditions, interventions, and end-of-life care, and plan accordingly using appropriate critical care resources.
- Demonstrate respect, compassion, and cultural sensitivity to children and their families during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives.
- Advocate fiercely for excellence in critically ill pediatric patient care and uphold patient rights, even in complex ethical situations.
- Lead and participate in the development of PICU-specific nursing initiatives and educational programs to continuously improve patient outcomes and experience.
- Undertake clinical audits and critical care research that contribute to the advancement of pediatric ICU nursing practice.
- Comply with and actively participate in Quality Improvement Projects focused on critical care processes, patient safety, and high-risk interventions.
- Rigorously maintain infection control measures and isolation protocols required in the Pediatric ICU environment.
- Participate in evaluation and redesign of systems and care programs to maximize survival rates, functional outcomes, and cost-effectiveness.
- Make recommendations for change based on critical care evidence-based practices and updated pediatric ICU clinical guidelines.
- Lead, develop, and review PICU-specific policies, procedures, and practice guidelines, and contribute to system-wide critical care improvements.
- Serve as a professional role model, expert consultant, and educator within the high-pressure PICU environment.
- Build and maintain strong professional networks with hospital employees, students, and medical faculty specializing in pediatric critical care.
- Assume full accountability for own actions, clinical judgments, and behaviors in the high-stakes PICU setting.
- Demonstrate independence, resilience, and initiative in performing PICU duties, often under extreme time-sensitive and emotionally charged conditions.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
