POSITION SUMMARY
Purpose
The I&C Engineer (Sr Process Control Engineer) will work closely with the site Maintenance team, Operations, and Technical Management. They will be responsible for coordinating, organizing, and executing Instrumentation & Controls activities for preventative and corrective maintenance, aiming to reduce maintenance costs while improving plant reliability and availability. The role supports facilities across multiple technologies such as Air Separation (ASU), Steam Methane reformer (HYCO), CO2 capture, Utilities, and ancillary equipment, including support for APQ Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
NATURE & SCOPE
The I&C Engineer, reporting to the Lead Controls Engineer / Engineering Manager, provides day-to-day support for maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Instrument & Controls systems. They execute preventative and corrective maintenance for all site low voltage Instrument & Controls equipment as directed by Maintenance Management and Engineering. The role involves working with internal and external resources to ensure scope of work is completed safely and reliably.
The facilities include technologies such as Air Separation (ASU), Hydrogen and CO2 production (HYCO), and H2 Mobility. The I&C Engineer will regularly interact with plant operations, maintenance, and Instrument Technicians to troubleshoot, support, and provide technical guidance on the site’s Instrumentation & Controls systems. Emphasizing teamwork, communication, organization, change management, work process optimization, planning, leadership, and hands-on technical skills across disciplines is essential.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety
- Maintain a safe work environment. Demonstrate leadership in company & industry safe work practices to prevent injuries. Ensure proper documentation of safety activities.
Technical
- Provide technical solutions and lead execution of SAP PM activities for all instrumentation, analysers, gas chromatography, and control systems including DCS, PLCs, and control loops.
- Manage long-term planning and support for instrumentation & controls, including calibrations, spare parts, controls logic, programming, graphics, operational changes, system migration, and backups.
- Perform SIL assessments and verification.
- Support engineering during plant construction and commissioning, including punch list preparation and closure, document control, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with Process Engineering to identify improvements, develop tracking metrics, and monitor plant performance, focusing on cost reduction, waste handling, raw materials, utilities, reliability, and capacity expansion.
- Define DCS interface requirements with Advanced Controls, and assist in designing, implementing, and testing interfaces.
- Support plant productivity projects, including instrumentation specification, control system configuration, wiring design, and work packages for contractors.
- Ensure availability of updated engineering specifications for procurement of system components.
- Develop and maintain standards, procedures, inspection contracts, and contractor guidelines for Instrument & Controls systems.
- Lead technical support for new installations, modifications, operations, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.
- Provide technical support for equipment sales and customer service, including onsite visits, phone support, or remote monitoring.
- Lead safety initiatives, investigations, and root cause analysis to implement corrective actions.

- Ensure safety of operations personnel by adhering to safety practices like permits, LOTO, confined space protocols, etc.
