Specialist II, Laboratory

An exciting opportunity is available for a Laboratory Specialist, based in Jizan, KSA, who will report directly to the Production Superintendent.

Summary:

We are seeking a motivated Laboratory Specialist to manage and communicate laboratory shift work, safety, testing and experiments, document control, timekeeping, and quality control. The role includes overseeing lab supervisors, technicians, and analysts, and conducting analytical and technical tests within a specialized laboratory setting.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with research samples: analyze research samples related to metallurgy, furnace, or laboratory processes without disrupting daily analysis or shift operations.
  2. Equipment calibration and method verification & validation: ensure accuracy and reliability of analyses using XRF, OES, TGA, CS, particle size analyzers, and wet chemical methods for slag and ilmenite samples.
  3. Equipment maintenance: manage AMC agreements to prevent breakdowns and ensure continuous lab operations.
  4. Inventory management: maintain inventory of spare parts, chemicals, and consumables.
  5. Lead Round Robin Cycles: coordinate additional sample analyses to benchmark lab performance against other labs.
  6. Support ISO/IEC 17025:2017 QMS implementation.
  7. Quick troubleshooting: investigate and resolve analysis or equipment issues promptly.
  8. Participate in technical meetings to discuss analytical issues, improvements, and research objectives.
  9. Training and coaching: provide training to supervisors and technicians on new equipment, analysis methods, and troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • Postgraduate Degree in Chemistry.
  • Experience in manufacturing industries such as metal or chemical sectors.
  • At least 10 years of laboratory and testing experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills.
  • Method development and planning expertise.
  • Skills in instrument maintenance and calibration.
  • Experience in quality inspection planning.
