Job description

We want to make procurement better, by building the best possible procurement and sourcing platform. We plan on becoming the go-to solution for procurement departments everywhere. Our source to pay platform lets organizations around the world find suppliers, issue tenders, and receive responses faster, cheaper, and more efficiently than ever before.As part of growing our tech function, we’re hiring for an engineering manager. This is a high impact role that sits at the heart of our engineering organization. This role will be responsible for the team behind the core Penny Procure product, and will report to the CTO.Your end users will be procurement professionals who will use the product you build day in, day out. As such, you should be immensely passionate about interacting with our customers directly, and working with product management and design to identify and solve their problems. You will be leading a team responsible for multiple areas of the product, from frontend and backend development, to novel AI features. This team will be yours to grow, and you will partner with stakeholders across the company to help shape our future.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

  • While there may be some hands-on coding for this role, we are looking for an experienced manager who has a strong technical and delivery background and has worked as a software engineer in previous roles, and have some knowledge of leading development teams.We recognise that Engineering Managers lead in different ways, we’re looking for someone who:Delivery and Execution: Enjoys taking accountability for delivery across your squad(s), collaborating with the wider product delivery org, including Design, and Product.
  • Engineering and Operational Excellence: Actively fosters a high bar for engineering excellence within your teams. You’re accountable for the technical outcomes your teams deliver alongside individual engineer performance and growth, so holding a high bar (and clearly articulating your expectations) is key.
  • People Leadership: Is able to lead a group of around ~10 engineers and support, coach and develop them through their career with regular 1:1s and continuous feedback.
  • Technical Influence: Partners with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for our engineering practices.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Builds strong stakeholder relationships with other teams, and creates a focus space for engineers to do their best work.
  • Organisational Wide Impact: Collaborates with the wider engineering organisation to contribute to company-wide best managerial and technical practices and standards.



RequirementsQualifications and Skills Required:

  • Previous experience as a software engineer (5+ years)
  • Previous experience as a team lead or engineering manager (2+ years)
Nice to have:

  • Experience at a fast growing startup
  • Experience building SaaS products for enterprise customers
  • Experience building on a MEAN stack (MongoDB, ExpressJS Angular, Node JS)
