The Purpose of the Role

The incumbent will serve as the primary interface between freight forwarders, government agencies, customs brokers, and Honeywell affiliates regarding trade compliance. Responsibilities include designing programs to ensure compliance with laws and regulations related to trade activities in Saudi Arabia and the GCC, working with trade authorities, compliance software, and SAP. The role involves managing strategic trade programs such as duty exemptions and free trade agreements, conducting customs audits, and ensuring proper documentation, valuation, and classification of international shipments.


Responsibilities
  1. Design and implement Honeywell's import/export compliance programs within designated segments, including customs regulation adherence across GCC, valuation reviews, tariff classification, duty and cost avoidance, and training associates on new policies. Conduct complex customs research and analysis with minimal supervision.
  2. Deliver cost savings and process improvements to mitigate trade risks.
  3. Manage relationships with customs brokers and freight forwarders, collaborating with Honeywell Commercial on brokerage sourcing and performance reviews.
  4. Develop and execute processes to ensure compliance with FTA programs and other duty/cost avoidance initiatives, maintaining eligibility and record retention.
  5. Communicate new trade requirements through training, newsletters, and SOPs.
  6. Perform customs audits annually in accordance with Honeywell SOPs and identify corrective actions from audits or investigations.
  7. Utilize trade compliance software for audits, and perform manual audits when necessary, recommending tools as needed.
  8. Monitor procedures of Honeywell facilities and vendors to ensure compliance with trade regulations.
  9. Conduct audits of import/export documentation retention.
  10. Perform other audit activities as assigned by the Trade Compliance Lead.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5-6 years of progressive experience in Trade Compliance or consulting environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of trade and customs compliance regulations specific to Saudi Arabia and GCC countries.
  • Secondary education preferred; brokers license or master's degree/certificate in compliance is advantageous.
  • Background in International Trade, Logistics, Customs, Law, or International Studies preferred.
  • Arabic language proficiency is required.
  • Ability to analyze alternatives and recommend solutions.
  • Decision-making skills regarding trade compliance issues.
  • Experience with HTS classification review and database maintenance.
  • Ability to develop and implement business procedures, practices, and controls to ensure customs compliance.
  • Consultative skills to advise internal stakeholders on import/export requirements and mitigate risks.
  • Experience in developing and updating SOPs to meet compliance standards.
  • Ability to act as a liaison with government authorities and handle customs documentation signatures.
  • Proactive approach to identifying procedures for improving clearance and cost efficiency.
