Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. SEL representative overseeing installation, commissioning and start-up of electrical power systems.
2. Lead and perform maintenance and acceptance testing of electrical power system equipment.
3. Lead and perform installation and retrofitting of existing relay systems. This includes functional checkout of this equipment prior to energization.
4. Provide technical oversight and train lower level technicians.
5. Write and/or conduct tests in support of department objectives.
6. Provide support to engineering staff and management as needed.
7. Develop and maintain a competent level of expertise in the detail design practices of SEL protection and automation systems.
8. Provide training on pre-established site specific guidelines. Ability to review site documents for soundness and accuracy.
9. Work in a safe, healthful and environmentally sound manner, report accidents and unsafe conditions promptly, and perform ergonomic exercises to reduce likelihood of injuries.
10. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

Required Qualifications
• Associate's degree in electronic technology or equivalent experience/military school training
• 10 plus years of experience providing technical service and/or engineering support in an engineering environment
• Working knowledge of industrial and utility practices
• Familiarity with modern test equipment
• Ability to work independently, accepting ownership of assigned responsibilities
• Willing to travel.
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
• Background check results satisfactory to SEL
• Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to write automated test plans for testing protective devices

Physical Requirements
• Ability to work in outside environments with varying climates
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, climb, and use arm and hand movements
• Ability to carry tools and to handle materials and equipment of up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work on stepladders
