Job description

About the job SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER

The Senior Process Engineer will lead the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of process systems in an onshore gas compression plant. The role involves overseeing process simulations, equipment sizing, and ensuring compliance with industry standards to enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety in gas compression, treatment, and transmission. The candidate will also provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams for successful project execution.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Heat & Material Balances for gas compression and processing facilities.
  • Perform mass & energy balance calculations for compression, dehydration, and gas conditioning systems.
  • Develop compressor station layouts, evaluate different compression technologies, and optimize plant operations.
  • Conduct process simulations using Aspen HYSYS, UniSim, ProMax, or Pipesim for efficiency improvement.
  • Size and specify reciprocating, centrifugal, and screw compressors, aftercoolers, separators, and heat exchangers.
  • Develop compressor performance curves, surge analysis, and thermodynamic efficiency assessments.
  • Optimize the selection and integration of gas treatment technologies, including dehydration (TEG/MDEA), slug catchers, and filter separators.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry codes and standards such as API 618, API 619, ASME B31.3, API 521, NFPA 86, and ISO 10439.
  • Lead HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, LOPA, and risk assessments for process safety compliance.
  • Develop flare & relief system designs, conduct PSV sizing, depressurization studies, and overpressure protection analysis.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior and mid-level process engineers.
  • Act as the process lead in FEED, Detailed Engineering, and EPC phases of gas compression projects.
  • Review and approve process design deliverables, ensuring alignment with project requirements and best practices.
  • Coordinate with multi-discipline engineering teams (mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, control systems) to develop integrated designs.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, EPC contractors, and regulatory authorities for process approvals and technical discussions.
  • Lead plant startup, commissioning, and performance testing for gas compression units.
  • Troubleshoot compressor surge issues, hydrate formation, flow assurance challenges, and operational bottlenecks.
  • Optimize process operations by implementing data-driven decision-making and real-time monitoring strategies.
  • Prepare and review process datasheets, cause & effect diagrams, operating philosophies, and control narratives.
  • Develop reports on process optimization, safety analysis, and plant performance improvements.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10-15 years in process engineering, with at least 5 years in onshore gas processing and compression projects.
  • Aspen HYSYS, UniSim, Pipesim, FlareNet, OLGA, and other process simulation tools.
  • Strong understanding of API, ASME, NFPA, ISO, and local environmental regulations.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), Professional Engineer (PE), or relevant industry certifications.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills for multi-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Extensive experience with gas transmission pipelines, gas sweetening (amine units), NGL recovery, and flare systems.
  • Hands-on involvement in commissioning and startup of gas compression plants.
  • Familiarity with digital twin technologies and advanced process control strategies for plant optimization.
