The Senior Principal Project Engineer is recognized as a specialist in the field of Project Engineering at McDermott. They can anticipate internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues and subsequently recommend process, product, or service improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the engineering scope of a McDermott project
- Establish and implement project procedures to ensure deliverables meet quality and technical content requirements in accordance with contract documents
- Manage the technical execution to support the business considerations established for the project
- May be responsible for a Unit/Area, a specific function, or may be assigned the Project Engineering Manager role on a project
- Support proposal preparations for prospective projects
- May be assigned as the Project Manager for smaller projects
- Promote safety in designs and work processes
- Help prepare and understand Engineering requirements in contract documents
- Coordinate with Engineering and Design Leads on an assigned project
- Develop and implement the Project Execution Plan, including multi-office execution (MOPEX) and DOR matrix
- Prepare project coordination procedures and communicate requirements to the team
- Supervise and guide other Project Engineers
- Ensure effective communication among engineering disciplines, document discussions, and approve related documents
- Manage project reports, cost, schedule, and budget control
- Handle change management proactively
- Develop and maintain engineering documents such as staffing plans, equipment lists, and change notices
- Coordinate with clients, management, and project leads, and third-party interfaces
- Identify and resolve problems with the engineering team
- Lead project handover, archiving, and lessons learned processes
- Interface with internal teams and clients on technical matters
- Anticipate and address business challenges or regulatory issues, recommending improvements
- Solve complex problems impacting the project and persuade stakeholders at senior levels
Desired Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering
- 15-20 years of Project Engineering experience, including 5-10 years managing multiple projects
- Registered Engineer in Training (ElT) or professional society membership preferred
- Flexibility in role reassignment and colleague support
- Strong representation and communication skills
- Knowledge of current engineering methods and software
- Recognized PEM or PE within the company
- Broad technical knowledge of design engineering codes and standards
- Experience in detailed design, field assignments, and international multi-office projects
- Proposal and contractual documentation experience
- Project Management Team (PMT) experience for projects
- Experience with both Brownfield and Greenfield projects
- Ability to interpret contractual documentation and communicate effectively with stakeholders
