Job description

Our Middle East office has an opening in Saudi Arabia.

Pilots

The purpose of this position is to assist, support, and advise the bridge management team in the safe navigation and pilotage of vessels. The pilot reports to the Contract Manager.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Conduct safe and efficient pilotage duties on board sea-going (tanker) vessels.
  • Command ships to steer them into and out of harbors, estuaries, straits, sounds, rivers, and bays, preventing unsafe operations.
  • Conduct safe berthing, mooring, un-mooring, and unberthing operations of (tanker) vessels.
  • Direct the course and speed of ships based on specialized knowledge of local winds, weather, water depths, tides, currents, and hazards.
  • Order crew at the helm to steer and navigate ships to avoid hazards, utilizing navigation aids.
  • Instruct tugboat captains on assistance required during berthing or unberthing operations.
  • Consult maps, charts, weather reports, and navigation equipment to determine and direct ship movements.
  • Provide assistance to ships approaching or leaving seacoasts, navigating in harbors, docking, and undocking.
  • Operate ship-to-shore radios or other communication means to exchange information for safe vessel operations.
  • Advise ship masters on harbor rules, terminal operations, and customs procedures.
Desired Candidate Profile

Job requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Harbour and SPM pilot in the maritime industry.
  • Master Class 1 certification, IMO A960 training, and medical fitness are required.
  • Experience with local navigation rules and geography.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach, able to engage and partner at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain high standards.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written); Arabic is an advantage.
