Senior Clinical Nurse Educator - Emergency unit
SENIOR CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR:
Performs all duties of Senior Nurse Clinician, Advanced and Specialty Nurse Clinician in addition to the following:
- Focuses on clinical leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration to deliver culturally sensitive high quality patient care.
- Applies advanced nursing knowledge and skills including complex problem solving; collaborates with Nursing and JHAH management as well as multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Utilizes effective change management strategies to promote acceptance of new evidence based processes to all healthcare workers.
- Ensures the provision of a safe environment by providing support and direction to staff, working within scope of practice and adhering to guidelines, policies and relevant legislation.
- Identifies variables that influence nursing practice and outcomes and develops strategies and service developments to improve clinical effectiveness and efficiency.
- Acts as a role model for healthcare workers to incorporate the organization’s mission, vision and values; participates in relevant committees and task forces as required.
- Utilizes materials/equipment/time in a manner which conserves resources.
- May lead organization committee/project.
TEAMWORK AND LEADERSHIP
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the health care team by communicating appropriately and professionally with colleagues and assuming a leadership and coordination role.
- Contribute to service and practice development related to area of expertise by actively participating in clinical networks in a collaborative manner with health care teams at local and broader levels.

- Collaborate with other Clinical Nurse Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists on evidence based practice utilization.
- Acts as a Consultant for own specialty to provide and initiate services.
EDUCATOR
- Contribute to quality health care and the nursing profession by participating in lifelong learning, research activities and the continued development of clinical expertise and practice.
- Collaborate with Nursing Management and Clinical Nurse Specialists in introducing new and updated practices to promote high quality standards of care at a micro level.
- Facilitate a learning environment by sharing knowledge and expertise, supporting the development of staff and students and being actively involved in the performance appraisal process and individual staff development plans.
- Promote Management directives in the clinical area including Infection control, Risk Management, Safety and Health and Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Assist with practice innovation and the implementation of change. Provide input on the selection and evaluation of specialty specific consumables and equipment.
- Contribute to the development and updating of evidenced based clinical policies, protocols, guidelines and educational materials in conjunction with a multi professional team.
- Contribute to the development of audit tools and collect, analyze and report Quality Improvement data for unit based audits to ensure best practice benchmarks are met.
- Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of provided educational tools and learning opportunities.
EDUCATION AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
- Fosters a safe learning environment by acknowledging the principles of Adult Learning and incorporates different styles of education from informal, group learning and 1:1 sessions.
- Mentor, coach and educate new and existing staff members and support nursing staff in their areas of expertise: e.g. Preceptors, champions for clinical practice changes.
- Contributes feedback on evaluation of staff performance and individual development plans.
- Conduct unit wide training and education on topics relevant to specialty practices to develop and advance professional clinical knowledge to ensure the best clinical outcomes for patients.
- Supports and assists staff to critically analyze events when faced with complex or challenging patient care situations; engages staff in problem solving strategies.
- Contribute to the assessment of training and educational needs of both the unit and individual staff members.
- Facilitate the completion and documentation of Mandatory and Unit Based Competencies and Point of Care Training.
- Demonstrates the use of and encourages reflective practice to enable staff and to identify and prioritize self-development.
- Promote local and regional educational opportunities appropriate to hospital and staff needs.
- Participate as a guest lecturer in Educational programs offered by the Office of Clinical Affairs.
Education
Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
Masters degree is required.
Experience
9 years minimum clinical nursing experience following licensure/registration in the country of origin, to include 4 years clinical experience in specialized area.
Certifications/Other requirements as applicable
Current licensure as a professional registered nurse.
Clinical Teaching Certificate/Nursing Education certificate from an accredited program that is >=6 months is required.
Advanced training/certification in specialty required.
Professional experience with demonstrated competency in clinical skills.
Fluent spoken and written English. Spoken Arabic desirable.
