Job Family Definition:

Sales Specialists & Consultants are product, services, software, or solution specialists responsible for leading pursuits in their focus areas. They collaborate with and support Account Managers and provide specialist expertise within the sales team. They drive proactive campaigns to build the pipeline, use specialized knowledge to prospect, qualify, negotiate, and close opportunities. They may have named accounts, cover a specific geography, or be allocated to a high-potential, competitive attack account.

Management Level Definition:

They apply developed subject matter knowledge to solve business issues, work on problems of diverse complexity, and may act as team or project leaders. They exercise independent judgment to identify solutions and handle unique situations, seeking advice for complex issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Seek out new opportunities and expand existing ones to build and manage the pipeline.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of competitors to strategically position HPE’s products and services.
  • Develop pursuit plans and manage the pipeline in alignment with account managers.
  • Establish professional, consultative relationships with clients by understanding their business needs.
  • Contribute to technical proposal development, negotiations, and deal closings.
  • Support account teams with technical expertise and participate in client engagements, including C-level interactions for complex solutions.
  • Interface with internal and external experts to anticipate customer needs and facilitate solutions development.

Education and Experience:

  • University or Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Proven success in achieving higher sales quotas.
  • Extensive vertical industry knowledge.
  • Typically 5-8 years of advanced sales experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep technical knowledge of products and competitors’ offerings.
  • Understanding of industry and market segments for consultative selling.
  • Knowledge of IT roles within vertical industries and cross-segment capabilities.
  • Negotiation skills to drive deals to close.
  • Broad understanding of customer needs and creative solutions.
  • Leadership in prospecting, negotiating, and closing sales.
  • Ability to translate product knowledge into customer business value.
  • Proficiency in managing the sales cycle from prospecting to close.
  • High professionalism in researching and sharing service-related information.
  • Knowledge of channel strategies and partner engagement.
