JOB PURPOSE
BAE Systems is the UK Government's nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements to provide equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia. We maintain Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel in a safe training environment on aircraft, equipment, and weapons.
BAE Systems Saudi Arabia supports the Saudi Arabian National Agenda, including Saudisation and developing Saudi National capabilities through the growth of Saudi National Partner Companies, thereby reinforcing industrialization and partnerships.
The Job Holder primarily serves as the Safety Manager, supporting the Head of Safety. The Safety Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and governing the Safety & Environmental Management System (SEMS) for safe operations.
They will represent BAE Systems Saudi Arabia on all safety matters related to project operations, managing interfaces with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
The Safety Manager ensures effective application of Safety & Environmental Management processes, standards, and assurance activities across operations. They will be the primary point of contact for all safety and environmental issues at the project level affecting BAES SA.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develop and facilitate the Safety and Environment Management System (SEMS).
Act as the primary safety management contact for all stakeholders, including internal teams, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Produce and maintain the Safety and Environmental Management Plan.
Ensure the effective management and implementation of safety and environmental requirements across the operation.
Assess, manage, and escalate safety risks and quality issues within the project to ensure safe operations.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; implement measures to prevent recurrence; communicate lessons learned.
Manage the Safety Programme Plan (SPP), tracking safety activities and reporting progress monthly.
Coordinate external safety audits and assessments, ensuring timely resolution of corrective actions.
Implement and support adherence to BAE Systems Saudi Arabia's Safety & Environmental policies, mandates, processes, and procedures.
Support the safe introduction and integration of new capabilities.
Serve as Secretariat for the Project Safety & Environmental Committee (PSEC).
Chair Hazard Management Meetings (HMMs).
Build and maintain strong networks with internal and external stakeholders.
Promote a safety culture through personal behaviors and proactive communication of safety concerns.
Manage daily safety, environmental, and quality standards through direct reports.
Ensure completion of mandated safety awareness training.
Participate in regular safety, health, and environmental reviews.
Complete any required specialist training as per line manager or Personal Development Review (PDR).
RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION
Ideally hold an Honours degree, preferably with Chartered Engineer status or an MSc in a safety-related discipline.
Experience developing and implementing Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
Practical experience in aircraft maintenance, airworthiness, or aircrew training services.
Experience in hazard management and risk assessment.
Knowledge of aerospace product support, design activities, and safety procedures.
Familiarity with design organization safety, maintenance safety, and airworthiness processes.
Experience with LCM and ELC processes, handbooks, and guides.
Knowledge of BAE Systems safety and environmental policies.
Ability to tailor safety management systems to project needs.
Experience investigating safety incidents.
Strong technical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to plan and conduct safety assessments and produce safety justifications.
Knowledge of Human Factors in Safety Engineering.
Meeting the Product Safety Competency Framework for Product Safety Practitioner level.
