Job Description

Job Title: Safety Engineer for OHTL (Overhead Transmission Lines) projects

Job Summary:

The Safety Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs and policies to protect the health and safety of employees, contractors, and the surrounding community. They analyze work environments, assess risks, and create strategies to minimize hazards and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard analyses on projects, systems, and operations.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and programs to reduce accidents, injuries, and environmental risks.
  • Ensure compliance with safety laws and regulations ( OSHA, EPA).
  • Provide safety training and education for employees to foster a safety-first culture.
  • Investigate accidents and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor safety performance using safety metrics and audits to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Design safety systems and equipment to protect workers and equipment.
  • Work with other departments (engineering, operations, HR) to ensure integration of safety in all processes.
  • Develop and enforce emergency response plans, fire drills, and evacuation procedures.
  • Prepare safety reports and documentation to ensure proper record-keeping and audits.
  • Collaborate with external agencies, vendors, and contractors on safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification(s) such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), OSHA / NEBOSH certification minimum 3 years, or similar is often preferred.
  • Experience in safety management, engineering, or a related field (typically 2-5 years).
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations and codes.
  • Ability to identify safety hazards and implement preventative measures.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with employees, management, and external agencies.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to handle complex safety challenges.
