Job description

RADIOGRAPHER, CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION LABORATORY
Location: Jeddah
Department/Section: Invasive Cardiology Lab Section

Summary
Maximizes radiation protection and reduces radiation dose to staff and patients through safe radiation practice, monitoring, and education, and evaluates and operates all radiographic equipment in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Works effectively with patients and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Responsible for the safe and appropriate use of radiographic equipment. Ensures that all members of the catheterization team observe radiation safety practices.
  2. Achieves optimal image quality with the lowest dose parameters using the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle.
  3. Performs daily equipment checks and simple troubleshooting. Notifies the Senior Radiographer (SR) of malfunctions or need for repair.
  4. Ensures that all equipment is properly maintained. Informs SR of safety hazards or need for repair/preventative maintenance.
  5. Carries out catheterization procedures under the direction of the Cardiologist. Positions radiographic equipment correctly and adjusts magnification and collimation as per protocol.
  6. Edits, archives, and retrieves patient images through the networking and media storage systems. Maintains the accuracy of the network through the workstations on a daily basis.
  7. Collects and distributes radiation monitoring devices on a monthly basis. Distributes report findings to all staff and maintains a log book.
  8. Responsible for annual cleaning and screening of radiation protection devices. Maintains a tracking system and documentation.
  9. Ensures adequate level of supplies and materials and informs SR of reduction in supply inventory.
  10. Assists in the training, education, and supervision of students, fellows, and new staff members and evaluates their performance.
  11. Assists with emergency resuscitation measures.
  12. Demonstrates the knowledge and necessary skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
  13. Assists with research projects, program development, data collection, staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education. Participates in departmental quality control and quality improvement programs.
  14. Complies with radiation safety rules and regulations of the hospital and in accordance with KACST, K.A. CARE, and other national or international regulatory bodies.
  15. Complies with the section policies, procedures, and protocols. Establishes a continuous quality improvement program in accordance with CBAHI, JCI, SFDA, and other accreditation agencies' standards.
  16. Applies and ensures compliance with the ALARA principle for all procedures involving radiation exposure.

Education
Bachelor's or Associate Degree/Diploma in Health Sciences or Two (2) years certification from a professional program in radiation technology/radiological sciences or other related field is required.

Experience Required
Grade 08: Two (2) years of related experience with Bachelor's, or four (4) years with Associate Degree/Diploma is required.
Grade 09: Four (4) years as Cardiovascular Technologist, Invasive at KFSH&RC, or (Grade 08) related experience is required.
Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4) years.
Fifty (50) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME].

Other Requirements (Certificates)
Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
Certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is required.
English proficiency is essential.
Registration by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, or country of origin equivalent is required.
