Job Description

To lead and oversee Quality Control (QC) activities aboard military vessels under construction in accordance with IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) and other regulatory standards. The QC Supervisor ensures inspections, testing, and quality processes are executed efficiently and in alignment with project timelines, scope, and budget. This role is key in upholding the highest quality standards in shipbuilding through strategic coordination, team leadership, and proactive engagement in continuous improvement.

Strategic and Functional Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate QC inspection activities across shipbuilding projects, ensuring compliance with IACS and applicable regulations.
  • Perform and supervise visual inspections and document findings, discrepancies, and non-conformities.
  • Ensure inspection results are recorded accurately and that all corrective actions are logged and resolved.
  • Monitor the quality performance of materials and workmanship, contributing to root cause analyses and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure adherence to inspection schedules and timelines as coordinated with the Ship Completion Manager.
  • Apply basic Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques, such as CPI and SPI, to monitor project performance.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives for QC systems, inspection workflows, and documentation processes.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed inspection and testing reports for review by management and other stakeholders.

Oversee the execution of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods, including:

  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor QC Inspectors, ensuring high performance and professional development.
  • Assign inspection tasks and adjust priorities based on real-time findings and project needs.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment to reduce turnover and enhance engagement.
  • Address and resolve daily challenges related to inspection and testing activities to avoid delays in production schedules.
  • Ensure that inspection work is conducted in a safe manner, aligned with shipyard safety protocols.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or marine engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in shipbuilding or marine industry
  • At least 3 years in a QC Inspector role with direct involvement in inspecting military or commercial vessels under IACS compliance.
  • Expert-level knowledge of shipbuilding inspection processes and NDT methods (UT, MPI, LPI, X-ray, Gamma Ray)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting
  • Basic understanding of Earned Value Management (CPI, SPI)
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills
  • Excellent social and communication skills for team engagement
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Visual Testing (VT) certification (preferred)
  • Other relevant certifications in quality control or inspection (e.g., AWS, ASNT Level II/III)
  • Training or certification in project management or shipbuilding disciplines
  • Indirect exposure to Production Planning, Quality, or Safety departments is a plus
