Tasks and Job Responsibilities:
- Perform the professional duties of a Psychiatrist consultant in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended by the CMO and approved by the Credentials and Privileging Committee.
- Provide regularly scheduled (usually weekly) caseload consultation. Case review consultations focus primarily on patients who are new to the caseload or who are not improving as expected under their current treatment plan.
- Work with the psychology manager to oversee the status and population health of their assigned patient caseload.
- Advise on treatment for patients who may need more intensive or specialized mental health care, supporting treatment in the medical setting until patients can be engaged in specialized care as appropriate.
- Evaluate patients and analyze their mental health status in the psychiatry clinic, providing the necessary treatment.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.
- Provide care to patients in the intermediate care unit and other wards.
- Offer consultation services to inpatients in their area of expertise.
- Educate patients and their families according to the patients’ condition.
- Share in the on-call duties of the psychiatry department, providing after-hours emergency coverage.
- Participate in the monthly staff meetings of the department.
- Contribute to educational activities within the Center.
- Participate in all quality management activities of the center, such as monthly mortality and morbidity meetings, peer reviews, audits, and chart reviews.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the CMO.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Board certification or equivalent in psychiatry from an accredited institution.
- Licensed by SCFHS as a consultant.
- At least 5 years of experience in addiction medicine after obtaining board certification or a doctoral degree.
Required Skills:
- Provide input to strategic decisions affecting the functional area of modern complexity.
- Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.
