Job description

Purpose:

The Production Engineering Manager will design, build, lead, direct, and manage a shipbuilding production engineering team, ensuring the efficient and high-quality design and construction of ships. They will oversee and coordinate engineering projects in shipbuilding, focusing on developing and implementing engineering policies, process flows, and procedures to ensure high-quality and efficient construction processes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop strategies, management plans, and process diagrams related to production engineering.
  2. Oversee the hiring and training of staff within Production Engineering.
  3. Verify the design of advanced manufacturing products/processes.
  4. Oversee the development of ship build strategies and methods, identifying product structure and installation sequences to support detailed planning and manufacturing activities.
  5. Manage the estimation of production costs, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  6. Analyze and design lean manufacturing cells using effective systems and simulation tools.
  7. Oversee the preparation of detailed drawings, including NC data, using computer-aided techniques.
  8. Manage manufacturing engineering at the start of production, providing technical support during construction.
  9. Develop the technical aspects of change orders, including pricing manufacturing efforts and estimating labor requirements in collaboration with production.
  10. Oversee the Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) process, reporting and recommending changes on ships to update engineering packages for current and future builds.
  11. Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety policies, and promote safety awareness.
  12. Implement strategies to improve quality, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
  13. Lead manufacturing engineering research.
  14. Conduct daily project meetings to ensure schedule adherence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and 3D viewer tools.
