Job Description

Overview: We are seeking a Process Engineer with extensive hands-on expertise in Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) processes to join the Downstream Operation Engineering Solutions Department (OESD). OESD's technical team provides high-quality, multi-disciplinary support to GM operating facilities (Refineries, NGLF, and petrochemical plants) within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and globally.

Your primary role is to be responsible for the total catalyst and absorbents management of the process units, including advisory on catalyst selection, performance evaluation & optimization, benchmarking, cost optimization, field technical support, and spent catalyst handling.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Review operations of process catalysts and absorbents by monitoring key performance indicators such as product yields, deactivation rates, remaining lifecycle, etc. Issue performance and benchmarking reports highlighting performance gaps and recommendations for optimization.
  2. Support process technology engineers onsite in resolving catalysts and absorbents performance gaps and implementing optimization initiatives.
  3. Participate in the Global Manufacturing technical team to provide advisory for catalyst and absorbents procurement, techno-economic evaluation, selection, and performance review.
  4. Coordinate with internal stakeholders for catalyst pilot testing activities.
  5. Manage emergency catalyst exchanges, catalyst regeneration, re-use, metal reclamation, and spent catalyst monetization.
  6. Maintain a database of catalysts and absorbents detailing technology providers, quantities, and forecasts.
  7. Develop a hydroprocessing catalyst cascading roadmap across assets to maximize catalyst usage.
  8. Provide field support for catalyst activities such as loading, unloading, regeneration, rejuvenation, pre-sulfiding, activation, and troubleshooting.
  9. Manage precious metals used in catalysts, including leasing and reclamation, and facilitate metal pool synergy with affiliates.
  10. Support pilot testing or field demonstrations of catalysts in collaboration with R&D and technical entities.
Minimum Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; an advanced degree is preferred.
  2. At least 17 years of experience in refining catalytic units such as hydroprocessing, catalytic cracking, reforming, or isomerization, with practical experience in catalyst selection, performance evaluation, optimization, troubleshooting, operation, regeneration, and handling.
  3. Exposure to technology licensors like UOP, Axens, etc., is a plus.
  4. Proficiency in process engineering simulation programs and tools.
  5. Experience in innovation and intellectual property development is a plus.
  6. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for troubleshooting complex operational issues.
