Job description

PURPOSE OF WORK:

To design, develop, implement, and maintain process control and monitoring applications used by refinery operations to maximize refinery profitability and reliability. The process control applications may encompass all aspects of regulatory control, sequence control, advanced control, optimization and expert system applications. The incumbent will identify and recommend to planning/process and Operations groups modifications to refinery operational targets or designs that will improve overall refinery Safety, Reliability, and profitability.

REGULAR ASSIGNED DUTIES:

  • Design, develop and implement new regulatory, sequence and advanced control, and expert system applications. This includes:
  1. Discussion with Operations /Process to identify requirements.
  2. Detailed process modeling, design, programming and testing of software.
  3. Training process engineers and operators in use of controllers.
  4. Documentation for the use and maintenance of the application.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing process control applications, operator displays, LP cost and calculations, as well as identifying and implementing possible enhancements.
  • Monitor (daily) existing process conditions and recommend to the Operations Department and process engineers (Business Team) changes in operating modes, targets and limits to maintain DMC applications KPI's.
  • Provide control applications documentation and provide training support on the use of the regulatory, advance regulatory controllers, and Advance Applications.
  • Research and stay current with control technology developments. Evaluate new technology and make recommendations for use at SAMREF (utilizing Best Net).
  • Utilize special applications for advance monitoring and troubleshooting of process control for the units.
  • Support Maintaining special applications, Analyzer Prediction, loop management, Alarm Management and Advance Control servers with the required interface tools.
  • Mentor, educate and coach less experienced engineers.
  • Participate in Alarm Management System, Monitor alarms rates and support bad actors elimination.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 5 years of related experience in Oil & Gas refineries.
