Job description

Principal Structural Geologist

To collaborate with the technical team to achieve exploration excellence. Responsible for maintaining and developing methodologies and SOPs, from core orientation quality control to detailed structural analysis. Ensure continued team development in geological understanding: mineralogy, structure, etc., as well as training in modern exploration methods.

The Principal Structural Geologist is expected to solve geological problems through the interpretation of structural data to understand geological history and processes. They should conduct structural analysis to determine controls on mineralization and model structures, lithologies, and complex ore bodies in 3D for mineral estimation. Interpret structures from regional geophysical datasets (magnetics, gravity, IP, etc.). Work across exploration camps and mentor geologists in the field.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Broad exploration experience in multiple terrains (at least 2) and significant knowledge of at least 3 commodities, with understanding of 2 more or international recognition in single commodity or exploration process, with proven expertise in geological mapping, data interpretation, and modeling.
  • Multicontinent experience.
  • Sound commercial skills and resource estimation or feasibility study experience.
  • Wide knowledge of applied exploration techniques and ability to generate practical solutions.
  • Proven discovery history and strong pattern recognition skills.
  • Ability to shift focus among commodities quickly and predict the unknown based on familiar patterns.
  • Experience in dealing with geological complexity and applying historical knowledge to long-term planning.

Leadership and Communication Skills:

  • Good leadership skills, developing others, and multicultural experience.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for discovery, fieldwork, and problem-solving.
  • Authority, maturity, and extensive internal and external networks.
  • Experience managing teams in foreign cultures and sharing geological knowledge.

Management and Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Program design, country/area management, and support.
  • Managing multiple projects, operationalizing strategies, and re-prioritizing as needed.
  • Developing and implementing business unit strategies to create sustainable value and support growth.

Operational and Field Responsibilities:

  • Leading technical teams and multiple exploration projects.
  • Accountable for program planning, interpretation, coaching junior staff, and applying exploration knowledge in the field.
  • Project area selection, drilling program approval, and representing the country.
  • Achieving operational targets and leading cross-business teams.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s and MSc Degree (PhD preferred) in structural geology.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in mineral exploration, with expertise in geological mapping, data interpretation, and 3D modeling.
  • Experience with multiple commodities (Cu, Ni, Zn, Li, Ag, Au, REE) in various geological settings.
  • Strong project management, communication skills, and field operation experience.
  • Proficiency in GIS (preferably ArcPro), 3D software (preferably Leapfrog), and data management.
  • Excellent presentation skills and team management experience.
