The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining project schedules, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely project delivery. This role involves coordinating with project teams, analyzing project performance, and identifying risks to ensure adherence to timelines and budgets. The Planning Engineer plays a critical role in optimizing resource allocation and supporting decision-making for successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Scheduling:
    • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar software.
    • Define project milestones, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with project managers and stakeholders.
    • Update schedules regularly to reflect project progress, changes, and potential delays.
  2. Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Track and analyze project progress against the baseline schedule.
    • Prepare and present progress reports, dashboards, and KPIs for management and stakeholders.
    • Identify schedule variances and recommend corrective actions to keep the project on track.
  3. Resource and Cost Planning:
    • Coordinate with the Planning & Cost Manager to allocate resources effectively across multiple projects.
    • Monitor resource utilization and adjust plans to optimize efficiency and minimize bottlenecks.
    • Provide input on cost estimates and budgets based on the schedule and resource requirements.
  4. Risk Analysis and Mitigation:
    • Identify potential risks to the project schedule and propose mitigation strategies.
    • Conduct what-if analyses to assess the impact of delays and resource changes on project timelines.
    • Collaborate with project managers to ensure risk management plans are implemented.
  5. Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Work closely with project managers, site teams, and other departments to ensure alignment on schedules.
    • Support procurement teams by providing lead time requirements for materials and services.
    • Assist in maintaining strong communication between internal and external stakeholders.
    • Evaluate scheduling processes and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in project planning and control.

Job Requirements

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  2. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project planning, preferably in the construction or real estate industry.
  3. Certifications: Certification in project planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6) or PMP certification is a plus.
  4. Skills:
    • Proficiency in scheduling software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent tools.
    • Strong understanding of project management principles and construction workflows.
    • Expertise in analyzing and interpreting project data and performance metrics.
