Job description

Job Title: PACS Administrator

Department: Radiology

Reports To: PACS Manager

Role Purpose:

The PACS Administrator is responsible for the daily management and maintenance of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS) at Al Salama Hospital. This role ensures smooth digital imaging workflows, supports radiology staff, and maintains data integrity and system performance.

Key Responsibilities:

System Management & Maintenance

• Maintain and upgrade PACS/RIS software and hardware.

• Resolve system issues and activate contingency plans when needed.

• Ensure proper HL7 integration with HIS systems.

Workflow & Data Integrity

• Monitor DICOM image data flow and correct patient demographics inconsistencies.

• Manage external DICOM file imports and RIS/HIS data merging.

• Troubleshoot PACS operations and fix study-related errors.

Image Management & Distribution

• Generate and manage DICOM CDs/DVDs and digital image sharing.

• Ensure timely image availability for clinical and surgical use.

• Retrieve archived images and manage second-opinion case uploads.

Inventory & Environment Management

• Maintain stock and cleanliness of CD/DVD resources and production equipment.

• Ensure readiness of all media for distribution.

Quality Assurance & Training

• Participate in QA/QI activities and audits.

• Train radiology and clinical staff on PACS/RIS systems and updates.

Customer & Interdepartmental Coordination

• Collaborate with physicians, IT, and radiology staff to streamline workflows.

• Support departmental needs and design efficient processes.

Confidentiality & Compliance

• Ensure patient data confidentiality and compliance with hospital standards.

• Adhere to workplace safety and patient rights regulations.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential Minimum Requirements:

• 3+ years of PACS/RIS system admin experience in a healthcare setting.

• Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, Biomedical, or related fields.

Desired Experience & Education:

• 5 years of experience in PACS administration.

• Bachelor's degree in Applied Medical Sciences or Healthcare Management.

• Knowledge of HL7, DICOM, and radiology workflows.
