Job Responsibilities
- Ensures, through actions either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding is provided to every patient at NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
- Ensures prompt and accurate delivery of medications to patients.
- Reviews, processes, and checks Physician's Orders and patient medication profiles properly.
- Provides drug information to healthcare professionals and patients to support rational drug therapy.
- Conducts orientation for new staff members.
- Ensures prescriptions are appropriate and accurately filled with detailed instructions by interpreting each prescription to verify strength and dosage within patient tolerance.
- Reviews patient profiles for drug interactions, allergies, diet restrictions, and appropriate dosages.
- Prepares medicines for inpatients daily based on the unit dose system.
- Calculates doses for IV admixtures, TPN, and cytotoxic drugs according to policies and procedures.
- Handles computerized charging, verification, and modification of inpatient medications for specific patients.
- Provides current and accurate drug information to healthcare professionals.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of patient information as per hospital policies and professional standards.
- Estimates monthly controlled drug requirements and stock levels; controls and initiates storehouse orders.
- Participates in inpatient counseling and training of pharmacy students.
- Assists in updating the hospital formulary.
- Ensures proper storage of newly delivered medicines.
- Observes the process of computerization, including drug dispensing, inventory management, drug interactions, allergies, refills, and prescription validity.
- Performs periodic spot-checks for controlled and narcotic drugs as per MOH guidelines to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Reviews pharmacy operating manuals every two years.
- Participates in continuing education to stay updated on new pharmaceuticals, equipment, techniques, and antidote information.
- Maintains current lists of physicians' and dentists' signature specimens, abbreviations, and clerical symbols, implementing approved changes.
- Implements and maintains infection control procedures.
- Complies with the hospital dress code.
- Educates patients and families according to their needs, documenting the process in patient records as per policy NSP-GEN-014.
- Understands the role in patient and family education.
- Involves patients and families in care planning, respecting their goals and choices.
- Provides health promotion and education tailored to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, language, culture, and circumstances.
- Performs other duties within their knowledge, skills, and abilities as assigned by superiors.
Qualifications
Education:
B.S. Pharmacy Graduate, licensed as a Pharmacist according to laws and regulations.
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Pharmacist in a large acute care hospital pharmacy.
Skills:
- Proficient in new medications and technology applications.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills preferred.
- Customer service skills with professionalism, effective communication (verbal and written).
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written, for Arabic and non-Arabic speakers.
- Computer literate.
