Job description

Staff pharmacist will prepare compounds, dispense medications and prescriptions in accordance with accepted standards and established Pharmacy procedures, provide patient counseling, monitor patient drug therapies, and offer drug information. The role includes implementing national and international standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Review and interpret medication orders (verbal and written) for clarity, rationality, dosage form, allergies, interactions, incompatibility, etc.
  2. Communicate with healthcare providers for clarification and discrepancies about medication orders and document interventions properly.
  3. Transcribe medication information to computerized patient profiles accurately and maintain complete records.
  4. Provide drug information and assist in instructing nursing and medical staff and pharmacy students.
  5. Inspect nursing units, discuss service problems, and recommend solutions to the Pharmacy Supervisor.
  6. Develop and coordinate the Quality Improvement Program within his/her area of responsibilities.
  7. Ensure 24-hour pharmacy service within the Pharmacy schedule.
  8. Attend pharmacy continuing education programs and departmental meetings.
  9. Serve as a professional role model and represent the department appropriately.
  10. Be cooperative, initiative-driven, motivated, and considerate of others' perspectives.
  11. Participate in patient and family education to enhance understanding and participation in care decisions.
  12. Perform other tasks as assigned within the scope of his/her competence.

Requirements

Essential Knowledge and Experience: Experience and knowledge of pharmacy practice regulations and standards.

Desirable: Over two years of experience in hospital pharmacy.

Education and Certification: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution with a valid professional registration certificate.

Skills

Essential: Knowledge of computerized pharmacy systems, I.V. admixture, and unit dose systems.

Desirable: Communication skills, ability to counsel patients, and previous experience in Middle East healthcare facilities.
