PACKAGING TECHNICIAN
Job Summary
To oversee the packaging of various company products, responsible for reducing costs and waste, and ensuring that the packaging appears clean and professional upon leaving the assembly line. Collaborates with team members responsible for labeling packages to ensure an efficient process from printing to loading onto trucks.
Job Responsibilities:
- Generate new packaging designs in response to briefs.
- Work with assembly line workers to develop efficient packaging processes.
- Ensure packaging complies with customer-defined standards.
- Ensure products meet set packaging requirements and specifications.
- Produce samples to test different materials and designs.
- Liaise with Production, Procurement, Stores, and QC staff.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
- Work quickly and efficiently, striving to increase productivity.
- Run trials to test packaging suitability and performance under various conditions.
- Control production and quality standards, reporting packaging that does not meet standards.
- Evaluate, select, and negotiate with suppliers.
- Identify and select products from suppliers.
- Write reports and maintain documentation.
- Stay updated with technological innovations in packaging.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the packaging and trimming areas.
- Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of packaging equipment.
- Address weaknesses or issues in the packaging process.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including creating backup for vacations/holidays and cross-training within or across departments.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- High school diploma or 3-year diploma in technical education.
- Preferably 23 years of experience in a similar industry.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of packaging requirements for electrical panels and related equipment.
- Familiarity with workflow and company procedures.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accountability.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently.
- Proactive, trustworthy, and hardworking.
- Experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Good spatial awareness and ability to handle repetitive tasks.
- Valid forklift driving certificate.
- Physical stamina to assist with manufacturing processes, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods.
