Job Description Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) works in Dhahran Operating Room (OR) and provides a wide range of complex and direct quality and evidence-based professional nursing care to patients guided by organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Work is performed on any shift, as required, in the OR of the Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) facilities. Working hours are assigned to meet operational needs and may include on-call and scheduled overtime.


Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at improving the assigned unit's nursing practices.
  2. Participate in the development of protocols and processes to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency.
  3. Pursue high staff engagement.
  4. Obtain high patient experience.
  5. Achieve and sustain high quality of care and patient safety.
  6. Support the empowerment of nurses through the enculturation of the JHAH nursing Professional Practice Model.
  7. Deliver high quality nursing care services focusing on complex cases.
  8. Assist in managing workflow ensuring proper resource utilization and providing mentorship to junior nurses.
  9. Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and participate in the evaluation of patient outcomes.
  10. Achieve and/or maintain the mandated set of activities for level 3 which is a minimum total of 20 points in at least four categories within each 12-month cycle as outlined in the Clinical Advancement Program.
  11. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient care from admission through discharge specific to the patient's age.
  12. Provide nursing care and patient/family education consistent with the plan of care and needs of the patients with respect for the patient's privacy, dignity, personal preference, and culture demonstrating acceptance, caring, and empathy utilizing appropriate resources when applicable.
  13. Precept new hires and trainees during the probation training period and participate in making recommendations regarding progress and training needs.
  14. Respond promptly and effectively to emergency and lifesaving situations by utilizing clinical skills, critical thinking, and evidence-based practices to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  15. Perform a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety, and comfort while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment for the patient, family, visitors, and staff.
  16. Represent the unit or department on committees, special interest groups, and task forces as assigned by the OR manager.
  17. Complete specific competencies as identified by the manager/clinical nurse educator according to the scope of service of the assigned area OR adhere to unit specific activities.
  18. Ensure safe procedures according to international patient safety goals and JHAH policies and procedures.
  19. Act as a scrub or circulating nurse according to the OR schedule.
  20. Set up the operating room according to the type of operation and according to the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) recommendations.
  21. Assist the surgeon during complex operative diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of service.
  22. Ensure that all pre-, intra-, and post-op documentation is completed in the relevant format and in a timely manner.
  23. Ensure familiarity with the specialized equipment used in the OR and can handle equipment malfunction during surgery.
  24. Evaluate supplies and equipment for patient care and give input to the service team leader/OR Manager.
  25. Observe and maintain strict aseptic practices.
  26. Monitor patients in the PACU utilizing the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) and JHAH standards and policies.
  27. Ensure all post-anesthesia documentation is completed promptly and in the relevant format.
  28. Administer medications intravenously or by patient-controlled analgesia as per clinician's order and utilize JHAH standards and policies for clinician's orders.

Minimum Education Required:
3 years International Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Nursing.

Professional Certifications Required:
Current licensure as a professional registered nurse.
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as applicable per scope of service of the assigned area.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as applicable per scope of service of the assigned area.

Years of Experience:
Minimum 5 years of Nursing Experience including 4 years working as an Operating Room Nurse.
