Job description

BAE Systems is the UK Government s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The TSS Mechanical Team Lead works in a highly challenging yet equally rewarding environment playing a key role in generating aircraft for the RSAF customer. The role is therefore extremely high profile and involves interfacing with other departments and organisation such as Ops, Supply Chain, along with Senior Management within the RSAF and across BAE SYSTEMS globally. The role could be expected to deputise for the Workshop Maintenance Manager in times of absence.

Work involves a balance between leading the resolution of complex Engineering issues and responsibility for team management including oversight of applicable rules and regulations. Activities as a consequence vary on a day-to-day basis.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the generation of Tornado aircraft mechanical components within the Organisation s Approval, ensuring that sufficient aircraft components are available to deliver the TSS organisation s commitments to the Customer.
  • Leads a team of approximately 170 including Tradesmen, Supervisors and Superintendents.
  • Ensures work is carried out in accordance with the standards and procedures detailed within the MOE and the scope of the Off Aircraft Maintenance approval.
  • Responsible for maintaining an effective and dynamic Error Management System and maintaining controls stated within the organisation s Safety Argument.
  • Responsible for addressing all Quality failings within the Off Aircraft Maintenance Workshops.
  • Responsible for the managing of all diversions (including sickness) to levels that enable the delivery of the contracted output.
  • Responsible for Succession Planning and Business Continuity Planning within the Off Aircraft Maintenance Workshops, ensuring that opportunities for Saudi Nationals are maximised.
  • Ensures staff are sufficient suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) are available to carry out the required maintenance.
  • Identified opportunities to improve and enhance the delivery of the service and actively encourages a Continuous Improvement culture.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

  • Qualifications: Degree qualified or equivalent in an Aircraft Maintenance discipline i.e. (Successful completion of a national civilian / military equivalent recognised aircraft maintenance traineeship / apprenticeship.
  • Must be a highly effective engineer with strong leadership, inter-personal and communication skills. Flexibility, enthusiasm, commitment, and influence are also key to meeting the requirements of the role as is the ability to build teams and strong relationships.
  • Extensive proven practical experience in maintenance of aircraft and aircraft systems; with additional education, experience, and knowledge of aircraft regulatory policies.
  • Extensive proven experience in a relevant management role.
  • Post holder must be HF trained; WOME trained.
  • Must be adept at managing Human Factors issues.
