Job description

BAE Systems is the UK Government's nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Naval Forces ships and train RSNF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their ships and equipment.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

The post holder will be responsible for leading a team of Naval Specialty Training Instructors (NSTI) in the Operations field at the Technical Institute for Naval Studies (TINS). This includes classroom delivery, placement and progress testing/marking, materials selection, preparation and development, syllabus development, implementation of courses, and record keeping. The post holder and all direct reports are expected to teach the core skills, knowledge, and attitude of relevant elements of the Operations syllabus. The post holder will coordinate with the Naval Specialty Training Manager (NSTM) via the NST Chief Instructor (NSTCI) concerning all aspects of course administration and implementation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing NST-Operations courses at TINS, ensuring they are delivered as planned and quality is maintained.
  • Providing guidance and professional development to NSTI-OPS and NSTSS-OPS teams.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the NST-Operations team to meet training targets.
  • Establishing effective links with RSNF Liaison Officers.
  • Contributing to timetable preparation, scheduling, and allocation of NSTI-OPS.
  • Managing training resources such as textbooks, workbooks, classrooms, laboratories, and training devices.
  • Working with RSNF teams to maintain trainee discipline.
  • Reviewing team performance through lesson observations and workload management.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) team.
  • Ensuring SHE requirements are met and communicated.
  • Completing Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) for staff and identifying development needs.
  • Developing course materials suitable for student abilities.
  • Providing updates on training performance and issues to the NSTM.
  • Completing reports and quality documentation promptly.
  • Operating with integrity and professionalism.

The post holder will also ensure the completion of any other reasonable requests from their line manager that align with company business.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential: At least three years’ experience leading instructor teams and overseeing high-standard training delivery; a graduate of an advanced military trade school or equivalent; five years’ practical experience in their specialty; completion of a Defence Train the Trainer or UKG-approved instructional techniques course (RQF Level 3) or Saudi equivalent; at least one year of instructional experience within the last five years; strong interpersonal and communication skills; fluency in English with IELTS 6.0 or higher achieved within the last two years; high cultural sensitivity.

Preferred: Knowledge of various teaching methodologies; experience developing training materials; familiarity with interactive media and e-content; experience delivering training to military or regulated environment clients.
