Overview:
As part of the IT Infrastructure team, this role is responsible for installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining the organization's computer systems to ensure smooth and efficient operations. The Network Specialist plays a critical role in providing Level 2 (L2) support for IT incidents and service tickets and actively participates in cross-functional IT projects alongside various managers and teams.
Key Accountabilities
1. Network Design and Implementation
- Design, configure, and deploy secure and scalable network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless solutions.
- Plan and optimize network layouts to maximize performance and security.
- Install and configure networking equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
2. Network Maintenance and Support
- Monitor and maintain network performance to ensure reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues promptly.
- Conduct routine maintenance and apply updates or patches to network systems.
3. Security Management
- Implement and manage security protocols including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
- Monitor for unauthorized access or suspicious activity and respond to security threats.
- Perform vulnerability assessments and enforce compliance with security policies.
4. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of network topology, device configurations, and standard procedures.
- Generate reports on performance metrics, incidents, and security events.
- Track and manage hardware/software inventory and licensing records.
5. Network Optimization
- Analyze traffic and bandwidth usage to identify performance improvements.
- Recommend and implement upgrades or changes to enhance network efficiency and reliability.
- Apply best practices for performance tuning and optimization.
6. Collaboration and Support
- Collaborate with IT support teams, system administrators, and third-party vendors to ensure continuous service availability.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users regarding network connectivity.
- Assist in the integration of new systems or applications requiring network access.
7. Compliance and Best Practices
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies and relevant industry standards in network configuration.
- Stay current with evolving technologies and networking trends.
- Participate in internal and external audits and assessments.
8. Disaster Recovery and Backup
- Develop, maintain, and periodically test disaster recovery procedures for the network environment.
- Ensure proper backup and redundancy strategies are in place for critical infrastructure components.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s in computer/IT/MIS, etc.
- Preferred: MS degree in Computer/IT/ etc.
Certifications:
- CCNA, ITIL, CCNP (Security)
Experience
- Required: 3-5 years overall
