Job description

American School Dhahran (ASD) seeks a dynamic performing arts (music/drama) teacher with a passion for involving students in performance. The ideal candidate will have experience inspiring students to perform in both informal and formal settings. This person would demonstrate a commitment to a well-rounded and flexible program that encompasses multiple age, grade, and experience levels. ASD has a strong sense of community. The successful candidate would be committed to contributing to the whole school community beyond the confines of the fine/performing arts program. The ideal candidate would be eager to engage in collaboration around our mission: We inspire innovation and compassionate action.

Position Duties

The successful candidate will be able to effectively:

Specifically with regards to performing arts, the successful candidate will be able to effectively:

  • Inspire students to perform in both informal and formal settings.
  • Lead and coordinate/conduct a performance arts experience.
  • Contribute to the creation and revision of the Fine / Performing Arts written curriculum.

Qualifications and Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of a University degree in the subject area of employment (Master's degree preferred).
  • Current teacher certification in the required subject area. Certification should be from a recognized and nationally recognized institution.
  • Police clearance to demonstrate the suitability of the applicant to work with children and in a school environment.
  • Experience in music and/or drama performance, with relevant instrumental/vocal/acting knowledge and skills.
  • Knowledge of the National Core Arts Standards.
  • Knowledge of Understanding by Design (UbD) principles.

Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate will have:
Experience:

  • Previous experience of teaching within an accredited school system (preferred).
  • Music and performing arts teachers should be able to demonstrate relevant experience and certification in teaching similar school programs as the applied for position (preferred).
  • Previous experience with G Suite/Microsoft Office.

Skills:

  • Ability to demonstrate a track record of continued professional development.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Good interpersonal skills in interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to supervise students in non-classroom settings.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to lead an after-school activity.
