Job Purpose:
- The Mountain Biking Mechanic is a position working throughout The Red Sea territory, whose primary goal is to support the Akun Adventure Operations team when operating the adventure assets and delivering MTB sessions within the destination, whilst maintaining a growing fleet of diverse, operational and rental mountain bikes.
- He/She is responsible for supporting the adventure program operational roll-out.
- The role requires collaboration with key stakeholders, ensuring all sides of the local community and business are informed and working together.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supporting the development and growth of unique mountain biking and E-gravel bikes trails and routes throughout The Red Sea.
- Assist on the operations and safe delivery of all inland mountain biking/E gravel biking activities as and when required.
- Supporting the MTB team to ensure compliance for all guests and activities with the destination-specific standard operating procedures, supporting with the development of SOPs/RAMS and ongoing evaluation.
- Responsible for the repair and maintenance of all rental mountain bikes, and that of the guest bikes.
- Tracking of bike maintenance.
- Responsible for continued maintenance of mountain bike rental fleet, especially working front and rear suspensions.
- Help with bike rentals when needed.
- Work with bike technicians to ensure safety of all bike rentals.
- Ability to complete required paperwork in an accurate and legible manner.
- Ability to adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Maintaining a safe operational and rental fleet.
- Mechanic will teach repair skills and provide assistance to staff during normal operating hours.
- Engage in active promotion and advocacy of all adventure activities delivered within the wider context of the project, including those not under their direct area of responsibility i.e., GALAXEA & WAMA.
- Participating in regular review sessions with Adventure Operations Managers to provide updates on all aspects of MTB operations.
- Be able to understand and enforce the application of a range of international adventure rules and regulations as and when required, connecting with local and international sports eco-systems and bodies.
- Preparing and checking MTB equipment before departing on pre-booked sessions.
- Welcoming and orienting guests to the basics of Mountain Biking and all relevant safety information.
- Coaching guests during experiences, providing tips and suggestions throughout.
- Teaching technique classes and evaluating guests' progress with body movement and trail decision making.
- Answering questions and offering advice when appropriate.
- Following all necessary safety protocols and responding properly if there's an emergency.
- Monitoring weather forecasts before and during rides.
- Ensuring that guests have an enjoyable MTB experience.
- Assisting fellow instructors and staff as necessary.
- Properly documenting, maintaining, and stowing all biking equipment after sessions.
- Keep up to date with the latest development in mountain biking technology, equipment, and trends.
- Conducting routine maintenance for bikes and equipment.
- Leading a team of outdoor instructional staff and delivering MTB awareness and skill sessions.

- Follow all relevant functional policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
- Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely functional MIS statements and reports to meet corporate and functional requirements, policies, and standards.

- Apply safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.
Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of departments systems, processes and practices considering international best practice, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Wilderness First Aid Certification or First Aid Certificate issued by an internationally recognised training provider.
- Mountain Survival Training.
- Leave No Trace training.
- 3-5 years of experience as a mountain biking instructor.
- Experience working with both children and adults.
- BICP Lv 2 Instructor/MIAS Mountain Bike Leader Lv 2 (MBL 2) certification as minimum requirements.
- MBLA LV 3 or equivalent certifications preferred.
- Work experience within the tourism industry, experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC is advantageous.
Skills:
- Proven experience and record of accomplishment for delivering a range of biking activities in a high-end hotel/resort environment.
- Clear capacity to recognise potential hazards within the day-to-day operations of mountain biking activities, taking the initiative, and setting in place actions to minimize those risks.
- Passion and enthusiasm for mountain biking.
- Familiarity with biking equipment and skills teaching techniques.
- Professional appearance and personable demeanor.
- Exhibit leadership qualities, mentor and develop other team members both in professional as well as inter-personal capacities.
- The candidate must be fluent in both written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate in a second language being a distinct bonus.
- The ideal candidate will be a positive and proactive individual with an outgoing, charismatic, and approachable character and with a high aptitude for customer care and good leadership skills.
