Medical Advisor, HER2 Breast Cancer

ABOUT ASTRAZENECA

AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development, and commercialization of prescription medicines for some of the world’s most serious diseases. But we’re more than one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.

ROLE SUMMARY

A hybrid role (at least 50% in the field), Medical Advisor provides scientific expertise in a highly strategic therapeutic area and builds/maintains AZ scientific leadership. The role involves working extensively with external stakeholders to forge strong relations and foster scientific and strategic partnerships with major hospitals, institutions, authorities, and non-traditional stakeholders (e.g., policy and decision makers, payer groups, government researchers) to help bridge gaps, strengthen the healthcare ecosystem, and improve treatment outcomes for better patient access to quality care.

Medical Advisor provides strategic inputs, participates in developing brand/medical strategies and life cycle management (LCM), and leads the design and implementation of medical activities aligned with strategy. The role exerts therapeutic area leadership within cross-functional teams, focusing on transforming care. Additionally, responsibilities include delivering medical education, providing clinical support to medical professionals, training sales teams, mentoring new Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), and guiding operational and compliance standards based on global and local policies.

The role may also involve reviewing activities and promotional materials and leading Medical Information and Pharmacovigilance efforts within a particular market.

What you’ll do

Design and deliver Medical strategic plan

Work closely with Medical Affairs Leadership and cross-functional teams to develop medical and brand strategies, leveraging market understanding and healthcare system insights. Identify opportunities for strategic, scalable, and sustainable clinical practice initiatives to enhance patient access to quality care. Develop and implement Key External Expert (KEE) engagement plans and pre-launch medical activities for new products, at least two years prior to launch, to address clinical and scientific challenges. Act as a strategic partner to the brand team on life cycle management and utilize technology and data dashboards to support decisions. Collect and communicate insights from the field and external stakeholders to internal teams, ensuring best practices and new developments are shared effectively.

Build, enhance, and maintain advocacy of Key External Experts (KEEs)

Identify and prioritize KEEs, including non-traditional stakeholders, based on their influence and expertise. Engage in scientific discussions and advancements, foster partnerships to advance disease understanding, and support evidence generation aligned with medical strategy. Activities include scientific exchanges, training speakers, leading advisory boards, presenting data, and facilitating continuing medical education events.

Build and implement scientific programs and partnerships to address unmet medical needs

Share insights to optimize product use and disease management. Lead strategic discussions with healthcare stakeholders to improve clinical decisions and medication access. Organize scientific events, support clinical study proposals, and collaborate with KEEs on research initiatives.

Act as scientific expert and mentor

Maintain expertise in AZ products, therapies, and clinical trends. Provide training and support to internal teams, co-lead regional medical activities, and ensure compliance with standards.

Corporate responsibility, Medical Information, and Governance

Review activities and materials for compliance, respond to scientific inquiries objectively, and manage medical information and pharmacovigilance processes within the market.
