B.E or above. 3-5 years of experience at the same position in a similar technology power plant.

Internal Promotion Criteria

Position Summary :

The Mechanical Engineer will be accountable for supervising a team of maintenance technicians and support staff to carry out daily mechanical maintenance activities at the power and desalination plant. Responsibilities include supporting major outages via the gas turbine long-term service agreement, and ensuring the plant meets safety, environmental, availability, reliability, efficiency, and budget targets.

Functions / Tasks :

  1. Safety at Work
  2. Ensure compliance with IMS and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel and contractors.
  3. Obtain Permits to Work as required.
  4. Follow Method Statements, Work Instructions, and Procedures.
  5. Ensure availability of necessary tools for safe work.
  6. Supervise technicians and contractors to follow safety and HSE procedures.
  7. Report unsafe conditions.

Maintenance Task Planning and Execution

  1. Ensure completion of maintenance tasks as per Work Orders in CMMS.
  2. Document work done in CMMS.
  3. Produce reports on maintenance activities.
  4. Plan maintenance according to OEM manuals and best practices.
  5. Coordinate with Lead Engineer for scheduling maintenance.
  6. Review and suggest improvements for Maintenance Procedures.

Equipment Failure Troubleshooting and Repair

  1. Support 24-hour operations with availability for call-outs.
  2. Reduce equipment downtime and maximize plant availability.
  3. Perform troubleshooting and rectify failures.
  4. Report rectification activities to Lead Engineer.
  5. Generate failure reports and perform Root Cause Analysis.
  6. Collaborate with plant operations on mechanical issues.

Reporting, Planning, and Budgeting

  1. Discuss job plans with Lead Engineer.
  2. Assist in outage planning and execution.
  3. Support budget preparation processes.

Spares, Consumables, and Tools

  1. Maintain adequate inventory of spares and consumables.
  2. Requisition necessary spares and consumables.
  3. Ensure tools and equipment are available and certified.
  4. Maintain tools and equipment in good condition.

Technical Advice Provision

  1. Provide technical guidance to colleagues and contractors.
  2. Review and update equipment task lists.
  3. Address inconsistencies in CMMS scheduling and documentation.

Staff Development

  1. Coach technicians on mechanical equipment and safety procedures.
  2. Deliver technical training on various plant components and maintenance techniques.

Frameworks, Boundaries, & Decision-Making Authority

  1. Operate under guidance of Lead Engineer for routine issues.
  2. Manage own activities within policy boundaries.
  3. Refer extraordinary issues outside policies to Engineering Manager/Lead Engineer.

Accountable for Outcomes :

  • Safety compliance, incident frequency, and near misses.
  • Work order closure, work quality, and report accuracy.
  • Troubleshooting efficiency and root cause analysis.
  • Outage planning accuracy and budget forecasts.
  • Availability of spares, tools, and documentation quality.
  • Technicians' skill level and work quality.
  • Staff feedback.
