PROJECT SUMMARY


Air Products, Saudi Aramco and ACWA Power are finalizing a partnership for an over $11 billion Gasification/Power joint venture (JV) at Jazan Economic City (JEC) in Saudi Arabia.


The JV will acquire, commission, and operate gasification assets, power units, and utilities from Saudi Aramco, which are under construction and scheduled for transfer at the end of 2019.


The JV will own and operate the facility under a 25-year contract, with Saudi Aramco supplying feedstock, and the JV producing power, hydrogen, and utilities. Air Products will hold at least 50% ownership, with Saudi Aramco and ACWA Power holding the remainder. The project emphasizes the development of regional infrastructure assets under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.


The Jazan IGCC is the world’s largest IGCC and ASU facility, producing 2100 MMSCFD syngas, 18,000 MT/Day oxygen, and 4 GW of power. It includes facilities for gasification, acid gas cleanup, sulfur recovery, power generation, and water utilities.


POSITION SUMMARY


We are seeking Mechanical Commissioning and Start-up Engineers to support the commissioning and start-up phases at Jazan IGCC. The role involves working on one of four units: Gasification, Acid Gas Removal/Hydrogen Recovery, Soot Ash Recovery, or Sulfur Recovery. The assignment lasts approximately 24 months, with potential for long-term operations. The position is on-site in Jazan, Saudi Arabia, with an 8-week on, 2-week off schedule.


The engineer will report to the Maintenance Lead Commissioning Manager and collaborate closely with operations and engineering teams. Candidates should have field/operations experience in large process plants, supporting safe and efficient commissioning and start-up of complex gasification technologies.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


This role involves reviewing engineering data, planning, and executing commissioning and start-up activities for key units, including gasification, acid gas removal, hydrogen recovery, sulfur recovery, and ash removal. Responsibilities include:


  • Leading safety during all phases of construction, commissioning, and start-up
  • Planning and managing equipment and system readiness for first start-up
  • Developing work processes for field construction and commissioning
  • Leading support contractors and personnel in equipment installation and start-up
  • Supporting troubleshooting, performance optimization, and plant turnaround activities
  • Ensuring compliance with standards, procedures, and work specifications
  • Coordinating with maintenance to update strategies
  • Implementing quality and process improvements
  • Managing resources and scheduling activities
  • Ensuring equipment reliability and performance readiness
  • Facilitating stakeholder coordination to adhere to schedules
  • Reporting project progress and supporting company initiatives during commissioning
