Job Overview:
Drive data-enabled decision making across large capital projects by architecting, automating, and visualizing project-controls information. The role transforms raw schedule, cost, risk, and document data into intuitive dashboards, workflows, and reports using Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint Online, and SQL. Working as a partner to project managers, cost engineers, and site teams, the specialist ensures information integrity, champions governance standards, and builds user capability in modern BI tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Co-author and maintain the Digital Project-Controls roadmap, aligning Power Platform architecture with company PMIS standards.
- Define data taxonomies, WBS coding structures, and metadata rules to guarantee single-source-of-truth reporting (leveraging experience setting up WBS & fact tables in projects.)
- Monitor adherence to data quality KPIs and lead monthly governance reviews with senior stakeholders.
- Design, build, and iterate interactive Power BI dashboards that merge schedule, cost, risk, and document workflows.
- Develop low-code apps and automated approval flows in Power Apps / Power Automate to streamline transmittals, status updates, and site data capture.
- Perform ETL: extract from SharePoint lists, SQL/Dataverse, Excel, and external APIs; transform and model for performant analytics.
- Troubleshoot data issues, optimize DAX/Power Query, and ensure report refresh reliability.
- Validate cost and progress data before it feeds executive dashboards; highlight variances and potential overruns early.
- Provide scenario modelling to support cash-flow phasing, contingency draw-down, and earned-value projections.
- Deliver tailored training sessions and user clinics for engineers, planners, and executives; raise overall BI literacy.
- Act as mentor for junior analysts; share best practice in data modelling, visual design, and storytelling with data.
- Serve as the digital bridge between client, consultants, and subcontractors—facilitating secure data exchange through SharePoint Online and Azure AD (experience administering 400 + users).
- Coordinate with IT to manage licenses (Power BI Pro, Premium, Remedy, etc.) and enforce permission models.
- Lead rollouts of new dashboards/apps, including stakeholder onboarding, feedback loops, and iterative enhancements.
- Advocate continuous improvement, capturing lessons learned and converting them into upgraded workflows.
- Draft, publish and maintain data‐governance SOPs covering WBS coding, SharePoint library structures, security groups and retention rules.
- Align all Power Platform workflows to ITIL and corporate PMIS standards, audit for compliance each quarter.
- Produce weekly “health-check” decks (SPI/CPI, risk heat‐map, RFI aging, schedule slippage) for the Project Controls Manager.
- Automate executive dashboards that roll up cost, schedule and document KPIs to C-level in Power BI Service.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in computer science, Information Technology or similar
- Desirable to have Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst (or DP-500), ITIL Foundation & OSA Intermediate and Google Data Analytics Professional Cert.
- 8 + years in project-controls analytics or PMIS engineering.
