Role Overview: Body in White Manufacturing Engineer

The Body in White Manufacturing Engineer will lead the development, launch, and ongoing operation of new Body in White production line equipment. This role involves collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics, Operations, Facilities, Product Engineering, New Product Introduction, Line Builders, Equipment Suppliers, and other teams to ensure successful launch and operation of the BIW production line. A solid understanding of product design, manufacturing assembly, launch commissioning, production operations, and quality systems is essential.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead technical efforts in complex equipment engineering development.
  2. Develop, review, and approve manufacturing processes for new BIW lines.
  3. Collaborate throughout all stages of line development from conception to launch.
  4. Manage production line buy-off at vendor sites, including process, fixtures, quality, joining, and automation.
  5. Coordinate all cross-functional activities during onsite installation and commissioning.
  6. Ensure station readiness for BIW line launches.
  7. Work cross-functionally to specify and engineer BIW equipment.
  8. Oversee launch execution, installation, and commissioning.
  9. Develop and implement quality control plans for BIW lines.
  10. Participate in PFMEA and develop control plans for BIW production.
  11. Drive continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, throughput, and cost reduction.
  12. Apply problem-solving skills, including 8D, Six Sigma, DOE, to resolve production issues.
  13. Address manufacturing dimensional accuracy issues and strategize execution for quality improvement.
  14. Implement engineering solutions based on product design changes.
  15. Utilize 3D modeling and simulations to validate equipment designs.
  16. Familiarity with control systems, I/Os, and PLC logic.
  17. Assist in layout engineering for optimized BIW line layouts.
  18. Experience with robotics, end-of-arm tooling, automation, sensors, material handling, fluid dispensing, vision systems, conveyors, and laser metrology.
Minimum Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  2. Over 5 years of experience in Body in White equipment, manufacturing, or process engineering.
  3. Experience with BIW equipment design and operations in the automotive sector.
  4. Hands-on experience with fixtures, welding, joining equipment, conveyors, robotics, and measurement systems.
  5. Proven ability to influence outcomes and drive initiatives in complex environments.
  6. Strong presentation and communication skills.
  7. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Catia.
  8. Willingness to travel up to 25%.
