Overview

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

The Manager, Services, is responsible for directing all yard services-related operations for Zone A, whether for rigs or vessels or other internal work in the yard. The Yard Services includes the sections of scaffolding, carpentry, auxiliary, cleaning and rigging.

Supervises all related system activities in the workshop and/or onboard and ensures that related works are carried out safely, on time and on budget in accordance with the project contractual obligations and International Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS).

The role involves working closely with the GM Production, Production Manager, Project Managers, and the Production teams or other internal departments as required to ensure that all assigned scopes are executed as being described above.

Ensures efficiency and proper housekeeping whether in workshops or onboard and when required prepares cost estimates for production/projects.

This role requires close and effective collaboration with other departments, communicating results and concerns to higher management, working under pressure, and driving a team to safely complete tasks against aggressive timelines and work scopes.

Responsiveness is a key factor in this role.

Solution orientation and doing it right the first-time mindset is a must, with a proactive approach of solving issues before they become problems.

Key Accountabilities
  • Ensure that all Services related activities are meticulously planned, and that the plans and responsibilities are clearly communicated and understood by all relevant section personnel.
  • Develop comprehensive project/production plans, including detailed schedules, budgets, and resource allocation. • Provide sound and good knowledge on various types of operations as relevant to each section.
  • Lead and manage scaffolding, carpentry, auxiliary, cleaning and rigging teams, including tradespeople, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure, in conjunction with the Procurement Supply Chain Group, that all materials and equipment are procured and delivered in accordance with the plan, production and project’s contract requirements.
  • Ensure effective and consistent interaction with other disciplines, management and supervision as required.
  • Monitor actual man-hours against budgeted man-hours and take appropriate steps to correct overruns and develop and manage project budgets, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Control the overtime to contribute to the best projects and gross margins.
  • Ensure that all production/project materials are used as defined in procedures and manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Strong involvement in daily/weekly progress reporting and is responsible for ensuring that supervision gather accurate physical progress.
  • Liaise closely with project teams and planning of the work for providing timely access to work areas to meet project deadlines.
  • Provide feedback for bid preparations, whether for feasibility and tendering and/or change of scope.
  • Visit project works regularly whether in workshops, onboard, in docks, or other open areas where related activities are taking place to check on progress and give technical advice and guidance. Ensure all control measures are in place for safety, environmental aspects and housekeeping.
  • Prepare department budgets and make proposals towards management regarding processes optimization and CAPEX, OPEX, and the manpower planning for the continual improvement of productivity and efficiency.
  • Ensure that the level of competence in the Services Department meets the IMI’s requirements with a high level of responsiveness when providing the necessary services for other MRO Production Departments.
  • Facilitate training and development of personnel.
  • Manage and direct relevant subcontractors to ensure that all contract obligations are met.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement in services provision production operations. Implement best practices, new technologies, and innovative solutions to drive continuous improvement and increase productivity.
  • Perform other related duties as per management direction
Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Professional Qualifications (Certifications & Accreditations) • Marine-related professional qualifications or relevant time served.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Familiar with manufacturing processes, techniques, and materials used in MRO for ships and rigs in a shipyard environment.

Experience

  • At least 15 – 18 years’ experience in the Ship repair companies, Oil & Gas Industry, shipyard environment.

Languages

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in the English Language.
