Job summary

KAUST’s Research User Computing Linux Specialist designs, operates, and improves KAUST's Linux-based end-user computing platforms, including Ubuntu and Rocky Linux endpoints, physical workstations, and virtual scientific workstations. This role enables secure, reliable, high-performance access to scientific desktop environments for faculty, researchers, and students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, engineering, or a related field.
• Linux certification such as RHCE, LFCE, LPIC, or equivalent preferred.
• Desirable: security, cloud, networking, or endpoint management certifications.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and improve Ubuntu and Rocky Linux end-user platforms for secure workstation services.
• Develop and maintain Linux workstation builds and images for physical and virtual desktops.
• Support remote platforms like NICE DCV and Kasm Workspaces for high-performance access.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, patching, monitoring using scripting, IaC, and GitOps.
• Troubleshoot Linux endpoint, workstation, GPU, driver, performance, and network issues.
• Integrate Linux desktops with IAM, storage, network, monitoring, security, and endpoint services.
• Collaborate with faculty, researchers, labs, HPC, storage, and security teams to translate requirements.
• Maintain documentation, runbooks, and dashboards; evaluate new technologies.
