Lead Underground Structures Engineer – 100% (m / f)

The ideal candidate is a technically accomplished and strategic structural engineer with over 15 years of experience delivering complex underground infrastructure projects such as metro stations, tunnels, underpasses, shafts, and other deep structures. The role requires leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams, engaging with clients and authorities, and delivering high-quality, buildable designs in line with international codes and regional regulations. A strong understanding of underground structural behaviour, soil-structure interaction, and staged construction methods is essential. The candidate must demonstrate technical depth, delivery-focused leadership, and a commitment to collaboration and innovation in project delivery.

Responsibilities :

• Lead the structural design and coordination of large-scale underground infrastructure including metro stations, tunnels, and deep urban structures.
• Provide technical leadership in design strategy, compliance, and coordination across structural, geotechnical, and systems interfaces.
• Oversee FEM modelling and analysis using MIDAS, PLAXIS, and SAP2000 to assess structural integrity, staging, and soil-structure interaction.
• Ensure compliance with international and local design standards (ACI, Eurocode, BS, SBC) and authority regulations.
• Engage directly with clients, authorities, and contractors to align design deliverables, resolve technical challenges, and support approvals.
• Drive quality assurance, value engineering, and constructability assessments across all phases of the project lifecycle.
• Support interface and integration of architectural, MEP, and fire / life safety requirements into structural design.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to team development and technical knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to planning, reporting, and design delivery tracking across multiple concurrent project packages.

Requirements :

• Master's or bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in structural design and coordination of underground works, preferably within metro or transport megaprojects.
• Extensive knowledge of deep excavation, segmental tunnels, retaining systems, and foundation behaviour in urban environments.
• Proficiency in MIDAS, PLAXIS, SAP2000, Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM coordination platforms.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills in a client-facing consultancy environment.
• Familiarity with local and international codes including ACI, Eurocode, SBC, and fire safety design criteria.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and technical reporting skills.
• Professional accreditation (CEng, PE, or equivalent) is an advantage.
• GCC or KSA metro / infrastructure experience preferred (e.g., Riyadh Metro, NEOM).
