Position Objectives:

  1. Desktop Site Survey Inspector for the Fiber Supply Management department within the Demand Management & Expansion business unit is responsible for conducting remote site surveys, utilizing digital tools and data to assess the feasibility and requirements for fiber optic network deployments.
  2. This role involves analyzing maps, blueprints, GIS data, and other virtual resources to identify potential sites for fiber installations, assess network infrastructure needs, and ensure alignment with technical specifications, quality standards, and project goals.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct remote site surveys using available digital resources, such as GIS data, maps, CAD drawings, and satellite imagery.
  2. Analyze site feasibility for fiber network deployment by evaluating virtual site data and identifying potential infrastructure requirements.
  3. Collaborate with the Demand Management & Expansion team to validate infrastructure needs for fiber projects, both planned and off-cycle.
  4. Review existing site conditions from desktop surveys and identify areas for improvement or optimization in fiber infrastructure.
  5. Evaluate and validate fiber network design and installation plans, ensuring alignment with technical specifications and regulatory requirements.
  6. Work with project managers to assess and validate OPEX and CAPEX for infrastructure build-outs based on the remote site survey findings.
  7. Provide feedback and recommendations on site-specific challenges, such as access issues or environmental constraints, based on virtual analysis.
  8. Support in the preparation of business cases for planned and off-cycle fiber deployments by providing desktop survey insights.
  9. Ensure compliance with fiber optic installation standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements for all assessed sites.
  10. Assist in refining demand forecasts and project timelines based on insights gathered from desktop surveys.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. 10+ years of experience in fiber optic network planning, remote site surveying, or infrastructure analysis.
  3. Strong knowledge of fiber optic technologies, network design principles, and fiber deployment challenges.
  4. Proficiency in using GIS tools, CAD software, and other digital mapping and survey applications.
  5. Experience working with remote site data to assess feasibility and infrastructure needs for fiber networks.
  6. Familiarity with OPEX and CAPEX considerations in infrastructure projects and their impact on remote assessments.
  7. Ability to analyze data from remote surveys and provide actionable insights for fiber network deployments.
  8. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in evaluating site conditions and requirements virtually.
  9. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
  10. Familiarity with telecommunications regulations, standards, and codes relevant to fiber network installations.
