Job description

Job Purpose / Objective

Responsible for coordinating all activities of the infection control department, including the identification, investigation, reporting, prevention, and control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) among patients and staff. Responsible for initiating appropriate isolation precautions and assisting with in-service programs related to infection prevention and control.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  1. Coordinate all infection control activities within the hospital.
  2. Investigate and monitor sources of suspected infections to determine the source and ensure control.
  3. Use standard methods to identify nosocomial infections.
  4. Provide education to staff on infection control practices.
  5. Prepare cultures for environmental and individual studies as needed.
  6. Review sterilization and disinfection techniques and recommend improvements.
  7. Attend ongoing educational programs to stay current on infection control topics.
  8. Review microbiology cultures and sensitivities to determine if infections are healthcare-associated.
  9. Teach infection control principles and develop related policies and procedures.
  10. Collaborate with nursing staff to monitor HAIs and implement isolation precautions.
  11. Investigate infections, especially those exceeding thresholds or occurring in clusters.
  12. Report findings to Performance Improvement and Infection Control Committee.
  13. Maintain records of HAIs among patients and staff.
  14. Monitor the use of germicides, disinfectants, and antiseptics according to policy.
  15. Participate in reviewing and updating infection control policies and procedures.
  16. Prepare quarterly reports and statistics for the Infection Control Committee.
  17. Work with the Infection Control Committee to review and approve policies biennially.
  18. Maintain effective relationships with healthcare team members, ensuring respectful communication.
  19. Provide education to patients and families about infection prevention.
  20. Maintain confidentiality of all patient and staff information.
  21. Conduct monthly infection control link nurse meetings.
  22. Report communicable diseases to MOH and local agencies as required.
  23. Participate in person-centered care initiatives and enhance patient experience with compassion and dignity.
  24. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education / Professional Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related field.

Experience

Minimum of two (2) years of experience, including experience as an Infection Control Link Nurse.

Professional Licensing / Certification / Training

BLS, Epidemiology, Infection Control certifications, and licensing from the Saudi Council and country of origin.
