Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Industrial Painter and Sandblaster to join our metal fabrication team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing, sandblasting, and painting metal surfaces to meet industry standards and customer specifications. This role requires expertise in abrasive blasting, spray painting (airless and air-assisted), surface preparation, and adherence to safety and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Sandblasting Duties:

• Follow blast cleaning standards, customer specifications, and inspection/test plans.
• Inspect and prepare blasting equipment before operation, ensuring proper functionality.
• Adjust air pressure, nozzle size, and abrasive media for optimal surface preparation.
• Monitor and replace worn blasting nozzles as needed.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance on sandblasting equipment.
• Select appropriate abrasives (grit size, type) based on material and finish requirements.
• Assist in setting up scaffolding and staging for blasting operations.
• Clean metal surfaces (degreasing, removing oil, sludge, rust) prior to blasting.
• Operate sandblasting equipment to remove paint, rust, scale, and contaminants.
• Use hand tools (buffers, chippers) to clean hard-to-reach areas.
• Inspect blasted surfaces for imperfections (sharp edges, weld spatter, slag, etc.).

Painting Duties:

• Apply industrial coatings using airless and air-assisted spray guns.
• Understand and follow paint manufacturer data sheets (PDS) for proper application.
• Mask and tape surfaces to protect non-painted areas.
• Ensure proper paint thickness, continuity, and intermediate coat adhesion.
• Handle, store, and dispose of paints, solvents, and hazardous materials safely.
• Track material usage and minimize waste.
• Apply proper tagging and product identification as required.

Documentation & Compliance:

• Record blasting and painting observations in inspection logs.
• Follow company safety protocols and PPE requirements.
• Comply with environmental regulations for waste disposal.

Desired Candidate Profile

• Proficient in airless and conventional spray painting.
• Knowledge of abrasive media (grit types, sizes) and blasting techniques.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications and paint data sheets.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and wear PPE (respirators, coveralls).
• Comfortable lifting heavy equipment and standing for extended periods.
