Install, maintain and repair electrical systems in the factory, including single phase and three phase wiring systems and equipment in combination with electro-mechanical systems and pneumatic systems.
Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
Ensure that electrical systems are safe and running efficiently.
Repair electrical equipment, such as industrial fans, transformers, motors, control systems, air conditioning units (domestic types), and power tools (drill machines, grinders, etc.).
Read blueprints and follow diagrams of circuits and wiring, using various hand and diagnostic tools in testing and fixing equipment.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team, or lead a team of junior technicians.
Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
Skills and Training Requirements:
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring compliance with codes.
Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
Test electrical systems for insulation and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, megger testers, and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of systems.
Direct and instruct subordinate technicians to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
Construct and fabricate parts as needed, using hand tools and specifications.
Knowledge of functionality of electro-mechanical systems and pneumatic systems is an added advantage.
