Hepatobiliary Surgery Consultant

Summary

Specializes in surgery related to the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas . These surgeons perform a range of procedures, from removing gallstones to performing liver resections for cancer. Responsible to treat conditions like pancreatitis, bile duct issues, and liver tumors, often using advanced techniques like laparoscopic or robotic surgery
Education / Qualification Required:
• Basic medical degree from recognized institution
• Post-qualification certification
• Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
• USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
• Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
• UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
• Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
• Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
Experience Post-Qualifications:
• Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES).
• Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS).
License:
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities
• Provides high-quality, evidence-based surgical care in all aspects of Hepatobiliary Surgery , in accordance with approved clinical privileges.
• Delivers timely consultation services in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings, adhering to organizational response-time standards and protocols.
• Ensures the timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all medical records, in compliance with institutional standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participates in the on-call coverage schedule and maintains appropriate availability and response time, as defined by organizational policy.
• Conducts daily morning rounds, with particular attention to identifying patients ready for discharge, and ensures discharge orders are completed at least 24 hours in advance.
• Performs other clinical duties related to hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, as assigned by the Section Head or Department Chair.
Academic Responsibilities
• Provides orientation, bedside training and supervision to interns, residents and fellows as assigned.
• Participates in Department s educational activities and training programs. Partakes in national and international medical conferences.
• Maintains and enhances professional knowledge and continuing education requirements.
Research Responsibilities
• Participates in clinical and translational research initiatives focused on hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases, in line with Research Advisory Council and institutional guidelines.
• Supports the development of academic publications and presentations that contribute to the advancement of hepatobiliary surgical science and patient outcomes.

Encourages collaborative research within multidisciplinary teams to enhance innovation and scientific discovery.
Administrative Responsibilities
• Undertakes the administrative duties assigned by Head of Section or Chairman.
• Participates in all mandatory departmental activities and serves on Departmental and Organization committees and other administrative functions, as required.
• Assists the department in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that help to maximize the utilization of all resources within the department and across the Organization.
• Abides by the current Organization and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps updated of any changes that might occur.
• Follows all Organization-related policies and procedures.
• Participates in self-and others education, training and development as applicable.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
