Job Title: Head of PR and Communications

Job Purpose

BAE Systems is the UK Government's nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment, and weapons.

The Head of Communications works as a member of a business or functional team typically reporting into a Communications or Business Director. The requirement is to interpret business strategy and significantly contribute to the implementation of a necessary Communications strategy, policy, and process in order to support and meet the operational needs of the business, function, or project.

At this level, the role requires excellent and broad Communications knowledge and experience plus a detailed appreciation/understanding of the business, market, and key competitors.

Job Accountabilities
  1. Internal Communication: Facilitating strategic connections and conversations within our organization, including between leaders, managers, and employees, or peer-to-peer.
  2. External Communication: Transmitting information between the company and external stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, investors, and society at large through various channels like print media, broadcast media, electronic communication, and social media.
  3. Public Relations & Events: Building mutually beneficial relationships between our company and the public, including stakeholders like customers, prospects, community members, and employees.
  4. Media Relations: Focusing on the relationship between the company and the media to tell the company's story through different media outlets.
  5. Brand & Reputation Management: Managing corporate brand and reputation affecting stakeholders and aspects like product evaluation, corporate identity, sponsorship, and recruitment.
  6. Change Management: Planning, implementing, and embedding change and transformation within the organization and with external stakeholders.
Recruitment Specification
  • A degree in Business Administration/Communications or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in the Communications field, preferably in the aviation/defence industry, with recent management experience in a mid-size organization.
  • Qualifications such as CIPR/CiB with in-depth understanding of Communications concepts and processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various Communications areas and how they interact to achieve objectives, along with industry and commercial awareness.
  • Full management of a team, including defining roles, planning, counseling, and contributing to employee pay decisions.
  • Ability to evaluate complex situations using diverse information sources, with strong analytical skills.
  • High-level communication skills, including active listening and negotiation, especially with senior stakeholders.
