Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Geological / Geophysical Data Scientist to join the Digital Transformation Group within the Geological Operations Department (GLOD).

The Digital Transformation Group (DTG) aims to streamline geological digital strategies, enhance data efficiency through transformation and automation, and develop innovative workflows for a comprehensive digital ecosystem for geological data.

The Data Scientist will be responsible for data gathering, cleaning, visualization, statistical analysis, and developing models and algorithms linked to geological operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with experts to develop data models and coordinate data migration to centralized databases.
  • Work with support teams to optimize data loading, visualization, and analysis methodologies.
  • Identify and resolve data discrepancies.
  • Develop predictive analyses using statistical, machine learning, and AI techniques.
  • Advise on machine learning frameworks.
  • Create data visualizations for senior management.
  • Test and optimize predictive models for performance and accuracy.
  • Ensure data governance and security standards are met.
  • Share knowledge and skills across teams.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geosciences or related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in geology and geophysics data projects, with 2-3 years in data analytics and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience in data strategy, governance, and compliance in the Oil & Gas sector.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, Java, or Visual Studio Code.
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts and tools like SQL, DSIS, SPSS.
  • Experience with visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Matplotlib.
  • Ability to address data issues using SQL or DSDQ.
